Man people around the league love Doc and think he can make guys better by helping them compliment each other on the court and work harder... I think that's a false narrative but it's the prevailing thought process I hear voiced by players, coaches, executives and journalists who are in the media.
Doc knows how to put himself on rosters with multiple all-stars. Will he win more playoff series in Philadelphia than he did in LA (3)?
I think he will. I also think with Doc as coach they will try to go out and get players that better complement Simmons and Embiid. I think they'll be very active this off season.
What happens when the 76ers hold a Doctor J tribute night? Do they strip Doc Rivers of his quack M.D.?
This dude is so overrated. He won one championship with three future HOFers back when the rest of the league wasn't stacked enough to deal with it. Anyone could have coached that team to a title. He hasn't done jack shit since then, and he has had some really talented teams.
The guy couldn't win with a prime Chris Paul, prime Blake Griffin, and a pretty solid supporting cast.
The funniest thing I think about the people that are bemoaning the Sixers selecting Doc for head coach is I don't know if they were paying attention to what was going on with Philly before Doc left the Clippers. They were in their final stages of interviews and it was down to Ty Lue and D'Antoni... supposedly they were leaning towards D'Antoni. If they chose Ty Lue over Doc there could be an argument that Ty Lue might be better but if they really were leaning towards D'Antoni they definitely got the better coach in Doc.
