I can't mask the fact that I dislike rocky mountain oysters. I'm more into brain food....like sweetbreads!
LOL Spam was very popular in WWII. It was also very popular among Koreans, and still is, because they were literally starving to death during the Korean War. Now look at those wealthy rascals and compare them with the North Koreans. Looks like the South Koreans made the right choice, Spam and all.
ultra popular here in hawaii also. WWII had a huge impact on this too. this is an example of one of the most popular snacks, breakfasts sold at mini marts here.(WIKI WIKI marts --fast fast store). it is the famous or infamous spam MUSUBI.
My wife likes to eat it fried 'till slightly crispy along with sticky rice, some of that seaweed and some sort of kimchee such as Chinese cabbage kimchee or cucumber kimchee. You're gonna need some sort of soft drink to wash that salty taste down. Personally, I prefer the more fermented cucumber kimchee. My wife complains that I like my kimchee more sour than she does and I complain that she likes hers more spicy hot than I do. I'm telling you right now that I could enjoy eating what you are depicting and especially if I had some authentic kimchee to go with it.
kimchee(ultra hot kind) and ramen is another mothers' little helper and working man's dinner to get out there for the end of the day to enjoy it. pau hana, done working. because tropics, construction and outside work often starts 6 am, pau hana sround 3 so time to enjoy family(ohana), and friends.
I use to eat a lot of ramen and kimchee but not so much these days. By the way, my wife and I spent a couple weeks on the Kona coast and I fell in love with Hawaii. I especially loved all the fresh tropical fruit, much of it growing on trees everywhere. Did not like the price of gas. My major disappointment was that I couldn't find a place that would sell a mixed drink served in either a hollowed out pineapple or an empty coconut. Why wouldn't a Singapore sling in a pineapple together with a paper umbrella and straw that glows in a black light sell like hotcakes there? Same for a coconut with a piña colada.
Been to the Spam festival several times in Waikiki. I was feed spam a lot as a youngster, my dad would fry it, or slice it and make spam and mayo sandwich.
