Thoughts? NBA games are a shooting contest unless you have LeBron or Giannis and the mid-range game is lost. Way too many one-skill shooters standing in the corner.

    Interesting but I say no.

I personally would like to see a 3pt alley-oop. If the player throwing the ball is behind the 3pt line and the player catching it near the basket never touches the ground first, that is a 3pt basket.

    1. It would give the game two 3pt options.
    2. It would open the court spacing.
    3. It would stop the boring players just standing around.

Why don't we expand on that rule and just create the full court alley-oop? Basically if the game is under 2 minutes any team that can complete a full court alley oop automatically wins the game. It'll bring some excitement to all of the blowouts and force fans to watch until the last minute because there's always a chance for a comeback. The team without the ball can just start attempting full court alley oops every possession. It'll make for a lot of exciting plays. Eventually the Rockets will just sign a bunch of players that are bad at basketball but can complete a full court alley-oop, because statistically you'll win more games just going for the full court alley-oop every game than actually trying to play all 48 minutes.

    That's way to gimmicky IMO.

Eliminating the corner 3 would kill the game.

I'm a proponent of slightly widening the court and slightly moving it back but eliminating the corner 3 kills the 3 as well as allows defenses to completely load up on the drive.

let's add a 6th player who only gets to play defense. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Actually, let's just make it so Portland gets a 6th player who plays defense.

Screw that, maybe Portland should just get 6 PLAYERS who play defense.

Thats just one more player for the refs to call 6 fouls on.

The only rule change that's necessary is something that gimps the refs influence over the game. Whatever it takes. I don't care.

How about if the Ref's just call it the same across the board. no superstar calls. No three steps for Lebron when he drives the lane. How about when he lowers his shoulder and drives into people it is a charge like everyone else. How about the refs are graded and if they miss to many calls they are suspended for a week or two. Something to hold them accountable. I get it they are going to miss occasional calls, but the refs are having way to much impact on the games.

Q: why do you shoot so many three's?

A: because there are no four's

    (old joke department, wizenheimer speaking)

5-pointer for anything past half court.

We couldn't even touch Anthony Davis on defense. Didn't matter who it was. They couldn't touch him. The NBA is a fucking joke.

I actually like the idea of a 4 point shot. I'd put it about half way between the 3 pt line and half court, at about 35'. I think that would help spread the floor a bit more and add a bit more excitement at the end of games.

I also like the idea of getting rid of basket interference and making it more like international ball. Once the ball hits the rim it's a live ball. Takes away some of the officials subjective guess work.

I'd also be a fan of getting rid of the jump ball for everything after the opening tip. Go with a possession arrow like college. Why should the team with the tallest guy get the advantage for tie balls?

I’m also for widening the court and moving the shot back. But no don’t get rid of the corner three.
One thing I don’t like is the limited space and shooters stepping out of bounds all the time. Give them room to move and give the defender room to defend as well.

How about going back to allowing hand checking also.

    No dunking the ball
Increase the rim height to 11 1/2 '
Foul Shots worth 1/2 point and round down

The 4 point shot is the only novel idea that I find appealing at all, everything else seems ridiculous and seems to either fundamentally change what basketball is or just complicate it way too much. I don't mind if we go with the international rules about when the ball is considered live around the hoop or on it. I like the jump ball but wouldn't throw a fit if we went with the possession arrow. I do think we need to get rid of all forms of illegal defense/defensive three seconds, that's too gimmicky for me. We don't need rules to try and make the game faster or scoring easier (I do like the shot clock but wish we'd go back to resetting it on rebounds and fouls). I don't mind the game evolving a little with simple things that are like what the key or the three point line did. I am all for ref accountability and extreme auditing/quality control of reffing.

I would like to see a 4-pt shot.

Maybe it's in effect only the last two minutes. It would get rid of the boring 'foul and hope they miss a free throw' BS we see at the end of so many games when a team is down by a few.

To eliminate fouling at the end of the game, why not give the team that gets fouled the option to either (a) take the free throws or (b) ball out of bounds with a fresh shot clock?
