Sure, but lack of empathy is a decision too, right? And I don’t think that’s the issue at play here. A lot of people smoke or have dangerous hobbies or jobs. People we love can get hooked on drugs or get into abusive relationships. All of those things have consequences yet they don’t stop us from feeling bad and wanting to help. Politics is the tribalism of our age and it gives us the permission to not care and to even hate just because someone has a D or an R on their voters registration card.
I've lost track of who it is we're all supposed to feel sorry for. Several hundred thousand options out there and I only have so much sympathy to go around. I want to save it for where it's deserved I know this, if somebody keeps playing with poisonous snakes after they've been warned, over and over, about the danger, and they get bit and die...I don't care if somebody keeps playing Russian Roulette, over and over, after they have been told how stupid it is, and they end up killing themselves, I don't care if somebody has had their driver's license suspended, and done some jail time from drunk driving arrests, they get out, get drunk, go for a drive, run into a tree and kill themselves....I don't care. No sympathy. However, if he hadn't hit a tree and instead slammed his car into a minivan with a family in it, I'd have a ton of sympathy for that family. Yep, selective sympathy....my choice. And that analogy is pretty close to the situation of people ignoring the risks of Covid and belligerently ignoring the safeguards as a political statement. I don't care when they get Covid; I don't celebrate it either. I may care about the people they infect though
Jamal Crawford might be one of the nicest human beings I've ever met........ trust me when I tell you your hate is being wasted on him. Thats a quality dude.
I have very little empathy for people who still smoke. Trying to compare this to someone who has a dangerous job is just ridiculous. Dangerous hobbies have nothing to do with Trump pushing his narrative. Getting hooked on drugs also really doesn’t fit this at all either. Seems to me this response is complete Trump apologist or satire.
My late neighbor had persistent back pain. After tests she learned the problem wasn't her back, she had lung cancer that had metastasized to her spine. Treatment proved ineffective. She was put on pain maintenance. My late cat Zoey used to go sit with her while I was at work. She was finally put in hospice and died. And kept smoking to the end. I have sympathy for anyone so addicted. But Pence was paid to say smoking doesn't cause cancer.
This all started regarding a comment about the wife of a cabinet member getting Covid. She went to a party where everyone was tested and may have been advised, erroneously, that that was sufficient. Personally, I’m sorry to hear she’s sick. I don’t know her, so I probably won’t lose any sleep over it. Who knows, she may even be a Democrat.
Trump apologist? Have you read ANYTHING else that I’ve posted in a political thread in the last six months? Trump apologist! I thought personal insults were off limits around here.
Ahhh but it says "This Response" not "This Poster". I have read and I know your position. I just happen to disagree with giving any leeway whatsoever on this issue. They have made terrible decisions, All Of Them, and I probably won't budge on this. You are welcome to but I just don't see me moving here.
Do you have empathy for a hyena or a rattlesnake? How about a Burmese python infesting Florida? Don't you need some redeeming quality, anything, to gain empathy?
I guess I must have been having a Mr. Rogers moment thinking that normal human decency would still be in play until after the election. I’m over it. Oh, and about those tests, everyone knows about the inherent inaccuracies now, but did you before this story? All major sports are relying on those same or similar tests. I wonder how that’s going to work out.
Yes, I've known for some time. As for the NBA, I have been critical about the playing of athletic events because of the uncertainty of testing, however, my understand is that different types of tests yield different accuracies and that the Trump administration was using one of the least accurate types. Do you mean that you have no human decency? That would be terrible and I'm truly sorry to hear it.
I have empathy for hyenas and rattlesnakes. They are not likable by human standards but they are living the way in which they evolved. They should be respected and allowed habitat. We shouldn't rate other animals by how well they meet human ethical ideals, instead do something about humans who don't meet ethical decency, let alone ideals.
