I think the idea is that our results have not been nearly as good as the rockets, championship or otherwise.
I think most around the league would say harden is better than Dame. I think most would say paul/Westbrook is better than CJ. So I think one would expect them to have a minor bit of more success. But morey has failed to build a good enough team around harden to get them over the hump. And moving Paul for Westbrook made it worse. Similar to complaints about olshey failing to get us over the hump with dame. An extra series win or two still has them on the same treadmill people whine about us being on. Grass is always greener...
Exactly. There are certain cities that have a built-in advantage when it comes to free agency. The same reason why it makes sense for some teams to blow it up (i.e the Lakers) and stupid for other teams to do so. GM's benefit from this.
What's funny is I'm pretty sure Olshey and Stotts got us to the Western Conference Finals and everyone in here acts like we're a lottery team. The truth is maybe I would want Morey and D'Antoni over Olshey and Stotts but I'll opt for answer C. None of the above. None of them seem to value defense and fit, they're all about offense and shiny toys. They also all seem to be gimmicky and not well rounded. D'Antoni runs teams in a way that has proven to win better in the regular season than the playoffs, Stotts plays his starters way too much all of the time and therefore never has a bench to rely on in case of injuries or in game slumps and neither guy gives a shit about defense. Morey likes flashy players and "changing the game" to the point that he might just opt for a square wheel, Olshey falls in love with "his guys" and never optimizes trade value and neither guy gives a shit about the way rosters fit together to compliment each other.
Agreed on option C. It is funny how it always seems a lot of people come up with excuses as to why we're lucky in anything successful we do(little success that there is), and how unlucky other teams are in their failures. But never seem to work the opposite.
It is funny how some Blazer fans will (grudgingly) admit Olshey and Stotts may not be the best GM and coach in history, but they always have an excuse why every other GM and coach are worse.
It was all worth it. I hope we could ever get that close but I doubt that happens. In same scenario last season we were destroyed by the Warriors, we had no chance. Houston was the better team and had bad luck.
Isn't it normal then that he pays more money for Harden+Westbrook compared to us with Lillard+CJ? I say both teams are in bad salary situations. At least one of them is trying to get better. The other one just hopes Zach and Ant will become basketball players. he is not the best GM in the business, but he is certainly better than our GM. Btw they have a 1st round pick in 21,22 and 23.
First thought: Dame is as loyal as they come. Morey is as far from that as anyone I can think of. Somehow, I don't see Dame being on board with that. Second thought: People cry foul over our small back court. Morey pushed the micro-ball lineup...
I really really want Olshey fired that said, about the only quality Morey has that I'd like in the new GM is the willingness to take risks. But taking risks needs to at least have a reasonable chance of success. Harden + Westbrook? That was like putting a rat and a snake in a shoebox
Dame being so loyal is why we need a GM that makes the hard calls, not one that gets attached to players that don't fit together. Dame has said it was hard every time a teammate has been traded and except for Afflalo who he didn't really have time to, Dame has connected with everyone brought on board, a lot of times becoming even closer to the new additions than he was to his previous teammate that he was incredibly close and loyal to. I believe Dame is a lot more malleable and a lot less rigid than most in here characterize him as being. If a trade is made and it improves this team, Dame is going to be good with it and move forward trying to forge new relationships with whoever comes in. I really think that applies to CJ as well. Dame is the kind of person that looks at everything as an opportunity and new challenge to prove himself. That being said, I think a team needs more stability than Morey tends to give and I'd rather have a less gimmicky but still forward thinking GM.
Tempting... If for no other reason than I miss making moves. And he's proven that he can remain competitive while doing it.
Not a Morey fan. He took huge risks which is fine, like it actually. But I absolutely HATE watching Houston. They pass 0-1 times and jack a three. Thats not innovative to me. And they have had really good talent and no Finals appearances. Yes, it was during GS domination, I get that. But going small-ball and launching threes is never going to win you a title.
