Evans scores 3 TDs, No. 23 App State tops Texas State 35-13

Darrynton Evans was recruited to Appalachian State as a slot receiver.

He's carved out a pretty solid niche at tailback.

Evans ran for 154 yards and three second-half touchdowns and No. 23 Appalachian State avoided another home upset with a big second half to beat Texas State 35-13 on a rain-soaked Saturday.

Evans' 3 TDs lead No. 20 App State to Sun Belt title, 45-38

Moments after his team won its second straight Sun Belt Conference championship game, Appalachian State coach Eli Drinkwitz continued to set the bar higher.

"It better be the Cotton Bowl!" Drinkwitz told fans on the field at Kidd Brewer Stadium when asked where he thought his team should play next.

Darrynton Evans scored three touchdowns and 20th-ranked Appalachian State won its fourth straight Sun Belt championship overall with a 45-38 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday. Evans was named the game's MVP for the second season in a row.

Appalachian State running back Darrynton Evans turned a teammate's fourth-down fumble into a 31-yard touchdown.

The Mountaineers added another fourth-down score when receiver Thomas Hennigan wrestled an under-thrown pass away from a UAB defensive back who tried to intercept it.

Those kinds of plays lifted No. 20 Appalachian State to a 31-17 victory over the Blazers in the New Orleans Bowl on Saturday night.

Emotional Arkansas State season ends in Camellia Bowl victory over Florida International

Blake Anderson no longer had to hold the emotions in check once the season, and the bowl win, were wrapped up.

The Arkansas State coach, whose wife died in August after a two-year battle with breast cancer, both celebrated victory and mourned her absence in the aftermath of a 34-26 win over Florida International on Saturday night in the Camellia Bowl.

No. 19 Louisiana-Lafayette holds off Georgia State in OT

Louisiana-Lafayette coach Billy Napier was concerned about Saturday's game at Georgia State.

Turns out he had good reason.

"I think human nature, when everybody's patting you on the back, maybe you relax a little bit," Napier said. "I feel like we practiced well. I feel like practice was up to par. I do think that, no matter what, some of that has a residual effect on you. I think it's important we learned a good lesson here."

Elijah Mitchell rushed for 164 yards, including the winning touchdown in overtime, and No. 19 Louisiana-Lafayette topped Georgia State 34-31.

La-Lafayette edges Georgia Southern on 53-yard field goal

Louisiana-Lafayette transfer kicker Nate Snyder had missed three of his four collegiate field goal attempts in the Ragin' Cajuns' first two games, but head coach Billy Napier didn't lose confidence.

"I watch him every day, and he's lights out," Napier said after Snyder's 53-yard field goal on the game's final play gave No. 19 ULL a 20-18 Sun Belt Conference win over upset-minded Georgia Southern here Saturday. "You can see the leg talent when he kicks off. He's a very talented young man who had just made some technical errors. You don't make a 53-yarder if you don't have confidence."
