Suppose that Olshey thinks that guys like Zach and Anfernee and Nas and even Wenyen and maybe even Hoard (I'm going to assume NOT Hezonja or Swanigan) are going to progress like Trent did, and has no intention of trading them or replacing them. Who would he pick in the draft to complement that group of youngsters? (And don't say BPA - because obviously that's what we hope for, but that's not the object of this exercise.) Explain your answer.
Aaron Nesmith is arguably the best shooter in the draft. He'd probably fit really well with the guys mentioned. Of course, nbadraft.net has him going 13, so that may not be an option.
So we have: Moses at C? Zach at PF/C Wenyen and Hoard at SF/PF Nas at SF Trent at SG/SF Simons at PG/SG Adams at PG? If all of them panned out, we wouldn't need anyone. But I think, given both our long-time weakness at backup PG and this draft's comparative depth there, a PG might be in order. (Adams might come back or he might not - is he even still under contract?) A PG who could share the backcourt with Simons would be ideal, and that would be Haliburton ideally, but of course he'll be long gone by our pick.
I'd probably go one of Nesmith, Vassell, or Williams. Maybe Green depending on how he measured out and if it seemed he could play the 3
We know it likely won't be a guard as Olshey seems infatuated with Simons. Nor will it be a big man who is NBA ready. That narrows it down quite a bit.
I would absolutely trade up in this draft, and get Okungwu from USC. I think he will be a really good player.
I like Maxey from kentucky. I just dont want CJ anymore, so it doesnt make sense to take Maxey. I also like Hagans from Kentucky as well, but with Simons, CJ, Lillard, Trent, whats the point. We need a backup PG, so i like Hagans. I like Williams from FSU too, fits more of a need.
Maybe he will be. Maybe Ant takes a huge leap forward this season and gives us just what we need a small score first guard that can't defend very well.
I read where Okoro is the closest thing to Jimmy Butler in the draft? If so, trade up with whatever it takes to get him.
Yeah, I like him as a prospect and would have no problem with us moving Ant to draft him. That being said, if we make a move that doesn't solve our problem of having half of our salary and well over half the cap taken up by two 6'3" guards that are score first and defend last, nothing is going to get me too excited. Oh and in no way is that me calling for a Dame trade unless that got us a locked up Giannis which isn't a real thing and even then I'd have to take pause because Dame is a generational leader. So it all boils down to (I'm sure the redundance of this gets old) the fact that at this point I will root for our team every chance I get but I won't get excited until CJ is gone or I am gladly proven wrong.
Nah. I don't see it. Jimmy is who he is because of his personality and work ethic. That is beyond rare in the league. I am interested in Patrick Williams (FSU). The way he moves reminds me a lot of Kwahi.
