QUOTE

Right now I?m in the middle of making 100,000 shots over 73 days. It?s a little mini-series I do. Right now I?m shooting 69.7 percent from the three-point line and I?m shooting 79.3 percent, I think, from the college three. There?s three people that rebound and tally my makes and misses. One kid is Jared, he?s a ball boy and there?s also Drew Cleary, our strength coach, and Brian Chase. He?s actually trying to make the team and doing it with me.I came up with this idea because of this kid Mike. He?s a shooter that went to my high school and broke some of my records, and this is what he just finished doing. So we do these little challenges because he thinks he can shoot better than me. He knows mentally he can?t beat me, but I have to say he did shoot 85 percent from the college three-point line. I think that?s pretty good.
http://www.nba.com/blog/gilbert_arenas.htmlThat's nearly 1370 shots per day... insane.

Wow, that's probably at least 5 hours per day if it's quick jumpshots.I wonder why it's 73 days?

I remember when he beat Deshawn Stevenson in a shooting competition when he was only using one hand. This guy is just crazy, and it's obvious that he practices all the time. He's one of the best pure scorers and shooters in this league.

[IMG], I read this yesterday, it seems like something Gilbert would do. This will be very difficult, of course, but he'll probabely be shooting at like 3 in the morning. BTW, Pesty, doesn't training camp start in 73 days?

This is why I have tremendous respect for Gilbert Arenas. He finds motivation in the craziest ways and then works his ass off using this crazy motive. He has what every basketball player should have, motivation, dedication, and a tremendous work ethic.

100,000 shots?! That is crazy. And in only 73 days, that takes some dedication. I admire Arenas for his dedication to basketball, even though it is a bit crazy of an idea.

I like and hate how he finds ways to motivate himself.

I like it because some of it is inspiring and good to hear how much he loves the game.

I hate it because he looks for reasons to be disrepsected to find motivation. Where is the internal motivation to be great? What if he runs out of external motivations? Does he just up and quit the game.

Gilbert's methods of finding inspiriation is definitely a double edged sword....

he actually says hes in the process of making 100,000 shots over 73 days, not shooting 100,000....at the % he listed from NBA 3 point distance, hed have to take a little over 143k shoots to make his 100k....thats about 2000 shots a day....if this is true, he will have a career year from the field....

Wow, you just hope this kind of stuff doesn't catch up with him later in his career. It's either that or it makes him more durable for the long haul, we'll see which.

Gilbert's going to have to stop playing with a chip on his shoulder because he's going to wear himself out soon. I understand that he feels like he has to prove his doubters wrong, but his arms will be dead come training camp.

I dont want to question his motivation, but hasnt he already stated he will opt out after this year? Perhaps hews setting him self up(or trying to) for a max contract somewhere

Yeah, he's going to opt out of his contract, but only to explore the possibility of re-signing with the Wizards for a maximum contract. Since Arenas will be a seven year veteran next offseason, he will be eligibile for a maximum contract worth 30% of 48.04% of the BRI. Using a projected cap of 57.30M [approximately a 3% raise], that means he can receive a starting salary of 16.19M. Over six seasons, using 10.5% raises, that's 122.66M. That's the best option for him, really. He can also take a 93.92M, five year deal with another team if he doesn't like the Wizards' direction. Arenas is smart. He's doing what's best for him and since the average athlete only competes for ten years, at best, this is the right thing to do.

122.66

It's the craziness and outlandish behaviour everyone loves about arenas. I don't particularly like how he plays the game of basketball but there's no doubt he is one of the funniest guys in the league.

Meh, most great shooters take up to 800 or so a day, it's not totally unheard of.

There is no way that he will wear out his arms from too much shooting. Thats like saying that you are going to wear out your brain from too much thinking. The more shooting the better, shooting a basketball does not take alot of effort or strength, especially if you are an NBA player. Shooting is all about developing muscle memory.

Shooting often takes quite a bit of endurance and arm strength. Even hoisting up twenty shots per game is incredibly tough.

Hes shooting 3's, so is he shooting flat footed or is he jump shooting? I ask because if hes taking 2000 jumpers a day(and he is), there could be an issue with his knees....despite his nickname, Agent Zero, the guy does list at 215 lbs, and asking your knees to take the shock of 2 bills x 144,000 reps over 2 and half months, leading up to a 6 month grind may be a mistake....anyone who has ever shot a basketball competitively is taught that its as much about your legs as it is any other part of your body....when you are fatigued, your shot tends to come up short....there is a reason that jump shooters tend to flame out in thier early 30s....
