It looks like Bowe and Benson signed, leaving Revis and the two QBs as the remaining unsigned 1st round picks.
Is it normal for the 1st pick in the NFL Draft to go this long without signing? I know it isn't in the NBA and I don't remember many situations like this in the NFL either.
Its abnormal...the team with the #1 overall pick in the draft has the right to negotiate with any player it is considering taking before the draft, so those deals are generally done before the draft....not signing your pick before the draft is a huge mistake, and there is no excuse for it....it cant happen in the NBA since the deals are guaranteed and the salaries are slotted, the prospects either take it or leave it, but they always take it....its the superior way to get rookies signed and I wish the NFL would adopt that system</p> </p><table border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="2" width="100%"><tbody><tr class="bg2"><td> 1 </td> <td> Oakland </td> <td> JaMarcus Russell, QB </td> <td> Unsigned </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 2 </td> <td> Detroit </td> <td> Calvin Johnson, WR </td> <td> 6 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 3 </td> <td> Cleveland </td> <td> Joe Thomas, OT </td> <td> 6 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 4 </td> <td> Tampa Bay </td> <td> Gaines Adams, DE </td> <td> 6 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 5 </td> <td> Arizona </td> <td> Levi Brown, OT </td> <td> 6 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 6 </td> <td> Washington </td> <td> LaRon Landry, FS </td> <td> 5 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 7 </td> <td> Minnesota </td> <td> Adrian Peterson, RB </td> <td> 5 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 8 </td> <td> Atlanta </td> <td> Jamaal Anderson, DE </td> <td> 5 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 9 </td> <td> Miami </td> <td> Ted Ginn Jr., WR </td> <td> 5 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 10 </td> <td> Houston </td> <td> Amobi Okoye, DT </td> <td> 6 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 11 </td> <td> San Francisco </td> <td> Patrick Willis, LB </td> <td> 5 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 12 </td> <td> Buffalo </td> <td> Marshawn Lynch, RB </td> <td> 5 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 13 </td> <td> St. Louis </td> <td> Adam Carriker, DE </td> <td> 5 years </td> </tr> <tr class="bg2"> <td> 14 </td> <td> N.Y. from ESPN:</p> "...The Raiders don't want to pay the standard guarantees given to top picks. Russell wants the typical deal, which includes skill and injury guarantees. The guarantees would likely be in excess of $30 million. Expect a subtle, behind-the-scenes battle in which each side will leak out why the other is wrong in its bargaining position. If Russell can't get a market deal, he will continue his holdout."</p> Has anyone heard any "Raider"-generated propaganda in the media about this? I haven't. It seems that in these professional negotiations, Russell's agents are acting in a very unprofessional way, leaking information out to the public that should not leave the walls of the building in which they came from. What they don't want us to hear, is for exactly how much Eric Metz is trying to gouge the Raiders for. I find it hard to believe that Al would "not want to pay the standard guarantees...". It's entirely possible that Al is just looking at the numbers they are sticking in front of him, and they are way out of proportion for what a top pick should get - this season, last season, or any season. I applaud Al for not allowing them to just stick it in his behind like the way Houston did with Mario Williams. Should the NFL adopt an NBA type of policy for first picks?</p>
