Grayson McCall and Coastal Carolina put together a final drive that was perfection, just like their regular season.

Jaivon Heiligh caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from McCall with 45 seconds left and No. 11 Coastal Carolina preserved its first unblemished regular season with a 42-38 win over Troy on Saturday.

Ga. Southern routs La. Tech 38-3 in New Orleans Bowl

Georgia Southern quarterback Shai Werts kept his team in suspense until pregame warmups.

That's when he started getting geared up emotionally the way he normally does on game days — which teammates and coaches understood to mean that their offensive leader wasn't going to let his shoulder injury sideline him for what was likely his final game with the Eagles.

"It really energized our team," coach Chad Lunsford said. "The guys fed off that for sure."

Werts had three touchdown runs and threw a 65-yard scoring pass to help Georgia Southern beat Louisiana Tech 38-3 in the New Orleans Bowl on Wednesday.

No. 22 Coastal Carolina, McCall blow out The Citadel 52-14

Grayson McCall learned a lot of things from Coastal Carolina’s breakthrough season last year. He’s ready to carry them into this fall.

“Now, we know the places we can go,” McCall said.

Especially with McCall in charge of the Chanticleers’ offense.

McCall threw for 262 yards and a touchdown and No. 22 Coastal Carolina scored on its first seven possessions in a season-opening 52-14 victory over The Citadel on Thursday night.

No. 17 Coastal Carolina wins 53-3; UMass' 15th straight loss

Coastal Carolina's defense loves watching the Chanticleers' offense operate, as long as it's on game days and not in practice.

Both sides of the ball stood strong Saturday as the 17th-ranked Chants scored on eight of nine possessions for a 53-3 victory that sent UMass to its 15th consecutive loss.

McCall leads No. 24 Coastal Carolina to 35-28 win over Troy

Facing another tight finish with Troy, Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell remembered something Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians puts on his play sheet: “No risk it, no biscuit.”

Chadwell took the risk on a fake punt with about 3 minutes left and a one-score lead as No. 24 Coastal Carolina held off Troy 35-28 on Thursday night, rebounding from its first loss of the season at Appalachian State last time out.

Vantrease passes Georgia Southern over No. 25 James Madison

James Madison's first week in the AP Top 25 ended with a painful reminder that even ranked teams must avoid turnovers.

Kyle Vantrease threw four touchdown passes, including a 22-yarder to Derwin Burgess Jr. with 1:10 remaining, and Georgia Southern beat No. 25 James Madison 45-38 on Saturday to spoil the Dukes' first appearance in the AP Top 25.
