We don't really need to showcase GTJ. The league has seen what he can do. Simons on the other hand..... hasn't shown much in a year or so.
It's going to get down to either they are going to keep Trent or Simons after this year but will go. Especially when Stotts shift Simons to the 2 in the 2nd half with CJ at point. By olshey picking up Simons 4 year and Trent restricted at the end of the year and olshey bragging about Simons then I going to predict either Trent will be traded before dead line or they will let him walk at the end of season.
The problem I’m seeing with Trent is that he isn’t fully embracing the three point shooter role. He thinks he can take the ball off the dribble and all I want to see is him moving without the ball and running off screens.
He always had a bit of chucker in his game, and now it looks like playing off the bench or playing with Melo is starting to emphasize his tendency to want to shot create. In the bubble, he was strictly 3&D, but he was playing along side Dame and CJ most of the time.
And that's the role he should be embracing. The guy is a good shooter and good defender. Everyone wants to be Dame and CJ. We don't have a true 3/D guy right now. Someone that just posts up on the perimeter and punishes teams. Maybe because our team is trash at swinging the ball until we find the open man.
Yeah, I agree, but at the same time the bench unit is kind of a mess, so I don't blame him for freewheeling it half of the time. The entire bench unit is 1 on 1 scorers, so him running off screens and hunting for threes is not easy when guys aren't going to be able to find him. Something I think we should do is change up the rotations a bit to get him first off the bench. Maximize the time he spends on the floor with Dame, since Dame is the best playmaker on the team.
I would think if Houston wanted to see Simons they would've wanted to see more out of him than 10 minutes. As for Harden possibly being traded to Portland, I have a strong suspicion that it's more of a Portland fans thing than a reality thing.
How can his teammates be expected to find him with those shitty floor-level camera angles? I can't find him either!!
or perhaps with Simons finally healthy Stotts wanted a better ball handler in. And there's the possibility that with GTJ having turned down his extension and Simons under more control we prefer in some situations to give Simons more minutes. And frankly given how bad Hood and Melo have looked I'd rather GTJ takes more of Hood's minutes and Melo gets a lot less as well.
Damn Stotts got all sorts of defensive to Quicks questions about the decision to play Trent vs not play him.
