Probably try to detain some Congress people or something crazy to that effect. All kinds of shit gets confiscated at a riot. Where are you going with this?
Not a stretch at all, a certifiable fact. The worst parts of humanity don’t necessarily represent the whole of the lot though. Not all BLM protesters are Antifas with bricks either. You wouldn’t catch me rioting and carrying on in that way, it’s despicable regardless of what side you’re on. Too many people on both sides are just stuck in a gray area, hopeless and lost and desperate and getting lumped in with the worst a ‘side’ has to offer. This country is in an unfortunate state.
You seem to be writing this off as a bunch of good old boys who got out of control. Or a media misdirection narrative. But these actions are of someone who was trying to subvert members of the government to control their actions, right? I could list a bunch of examples but the zip tie cuffs seem to be the most egregious.
I’m not “assigning” you anything. In fact, I find you to be one of the more reasonable posters on this side of the forum, whether I always agree with you or not. I just struggle with your reluctance to acknowledge that the events of 1/6 are grounded in white resentment. That could not have been more obvious. And the refusal of ANY white person to acknowledge at least some level of white privilege is blindness (or recalcitrance) pure and simple. Yeah, it’s tough for white people who have grown up in predominantly white areas to see and acknowledge it because they have had no close proximity to it and genuinely don’t understand what it is. I had a conversation with a friend last night, and when he started a ignorant racist rant I called him out on his white privilege. His response was that he was not privileged, that he had to work hard for everything and that because I came from a family whose financial circumstances were a step above his family’s, I was the one who had white privilege. My point being here is that he had NO clue as to what white privilege meant and was not the least bit interested in learning. There IS power in skin color and we saw it on full display on Wednesday. To deny it is to misunderstand it. Yes, life is about money and influence. And in America that money and influence has a color; virtually pure white. And to finish my screed off......Wednesday’s rioters were tricked into the believing the election was stolen and encouraged to riot by the President of the United States, NOT the media. It’s not the (unless it’s the right wing) media’s fault that a large chunk of America refuses to believe cold, hard (and definitively proven) facts that the election was legitimate. Basically, they are being misguided by their own self interest more than anything else (how very human). The media deserves a huge heaping of responsibility for what has happened, but they need to get in line behind the president and his political enablers. The blame starts at the top. This is what happens when we put ignorant and emotionally stunted children in positions of power.
The Republicans seem to have done a fine job of tricking you into believing that racism no longer exists. It's remarkable how sheltered you have to be to actually buy that.
These cowardly, fence-riding takes are truly harmful. If you can't recognize the difference between the raid on the Capitol Building and people protesting police brutality, then do some research or something, but spare the world the toxic, downplaying, apologist angle already, because it's a big part of the problem.
The only people who confuse ANTIFA and BLM are people who want to confuse them. They are very different groups, made up of different people, and have different agendas.
Fuck this both siderism. I have been to thousands of demonstrations and rallies for a variety of causes. Sometimes participants carried signs with which I disagreed, but I never saw Confederate flags, swastikas, or praise of Holocaust. Ever. Except sometimes from counter- protesters.
Beating a Capitol policeman to death with a fire hydrant and building a scaffold with a hangiman's noose while a crowd is shouting "Hang Pence" and while pipe bombs and zip ties are carried throughout the building.....give me a break...this was not some....we're protesting the vote...this was insurrection...you're a vet like me johhnyboy...you should know the difference
Predictable, but pure bullshit. I'm all for seeing both sides of something and keeping an open mind, that's why I've always been an independent. But there is only one side that is not in touch with reality right now regarding the election. Only one side that attempted an insurrection at the U.S. capital. Only one side that carried confederate flags into the capital building, hung nooses, flaunted white supremacist symbols and white power hand signals, who wore shirts that said, "Camp Auschwitz" and "6MWE", who flew the Kekistan flag and swastika flags, and who belong to groups like QAnon, the proud boys and other fascist/racist organizations. These were not isolated incidents either. I get not everyone who breached the capital was racist, no shit. But enough of them were that we should call it what it is. And they all seem to be on one side and emboldened by their own president. There were looters who took advantage of BLM protests and looted stores like CVS and Rite Aid or engaged in isolated instances of violence. If you want to equate that to thousands looting the U.S. capital building, chanting things like "Hang Mike Pence" and actively looking for members of congress in order to either hurt them, somehow have them overturn an election, and keep them from doing their constitutional duty, then you're simply a moron.
Of course they would have solved the problem early on but do you know why they were prevented from getting there? Yes, it was the newly appointed by Trump leadership in the Pentagon. I suspect the same asshole had something to do with the woefully thin presence of the Capitol Police.
Never said that. Horrible neglect of context here. Not even worth a discussion if your initial premise is a straw man.
Just stop. Recognizing the problems coming from both sides is not harmful, your black and white, left and right takes are. Use all the scary language you want to shame those in the middle ground into coming to your side but just know it’s bullshit. You are doing everything you accused me of in the very same post.
I’m actually not a veteran, but I do appreciate your service, just be clear. I don’t want to take any accolades I didn’t earn or misrepresent myself to others here.
Nope. Both-side-ism is one of the problems. Downplaying is one of the problems. Pretending to be "middle ground" is one of the problems. They beat a policeman to death. As a mob, rained down on him. There were gallows, zipties, pipe bombs. No one in the "middle ground" acts like this is a both sides thing
You said it explicitly, I didn't change the context at all. Saying skin color has no power means that nobody is at an advantage or disadvantage due to skin color. Naming other power imbalance factors in no way changes the meaning of that. Maybe learn the meanings of your own words. I get why you'd want to bail on the discussion, though, while pretending it's my fault. That's a really, deeply embarrassing thing you said and you're not the type to grow or learn or just say, "You're right, my bad."
True. This is a hunt them down, arrest their asses, try them, convict them and throw them in prison thing.
I would suggest that aggressively is a better adjective for moron when talking about the maga movement
