Gary Trent plays like he sees his sub checking in at the table for him every second. Like, I'm coming out, better get this last shot off.

This is true. I don't believe he's ever been shy to shoot at any level.

See I think it is more like he thinks "Damn I haven't seen the ball in over 5 minutes. I need to get a shot up. I might not see the ball again this quarter"

I think Trent finished the last, very tight, game.

I'm interested to see if this becomes a new trend.

Moving the ball, moving players off-ball, having a unique variation of sets to use in different situations, playing the right defensive scheme at the right times, executing said defensive schemes properly, having proper adjustability in general, etc.

Other teams have won playing other styles but we dont have LeBron or a generational talent. So we have to do the little things right to win it all.

Heres the thing: my opinion isnt based on a 3 game sample size, it's based on a 5-year sample size. So a 3-game sample isnt gonna change it. Sorry.

Like i said above. This is a "Fire Stotts" thread and actually i believe you are the OP from way back in 2016. I would not expect a three game sample size to change your opinion. Not even a good season or a deep playoff run because those have not either.
You been beating this drum for a while now. Eventually you will get your wish.

It was a nice win against Sactown, but again Trent gets 23 minutes. He was +12 in that time (highest on the team). So it's not like the team was playing badly with him in there.

I wish a reporter would ask Stotts, "What did you see in Trent tonight that made you think playing Hood 10 minutes was a good idea? Do you think you were right? Do you think Trent playing 33 minutes instead of 23 minutes might have been a better decision? How about Melo? Do you think if you shifted 10 of his minutes to Trent it might have been a good idea?"

    This shit is so infuriating.

I think their clearly trying to rehab Hood back into shape and get his confidence right. I agree he’s playing terrible and brings absolutely nothing right now but being a liability

    I think you're right.

But even so, management and the coach need to weigh the idea of recovering a 28 year old mediocre vet coming off a major injury vs properly developing a 22 year old stud. Throw Hood out there in garbage minutes.

I think at this point (and when others first said it I thought it was too cynical) there is a very real chance that they are limiting Gary's PT to lower his value so they can re-sign him for less in the off season.

The only other thing I can think of is that the Blazers are trying to prepare for Covid to strike. If they keep Hood, Melo and Simmons all on the warmer it may be easier to give them major minutes if we get multiple players missing games. I would actually respect this strategy. I can kind of see why they wouldn't necessarily publicize it as well.

You think that Vonleh is this "strategy" as well?

Edit. I missed the point by 180. My bad.

I think they’re hoping Hood will return to form so they can start him over DJJ. But at this point I just don’t see it happening. Fortunately Rodney is making enough money that he’s nice trade filler.

I think Hoodie will be alright. He just needs more time.

We don’t have time for him to work through this. Stotts is clearly married to the Melo/Kanter lineup, which is bad enough, but you throw Hood in there and the second unit is giving up massive leads which the starters then have to come dig us out of.

We can play Melo without Kanter and Hood and be fine.

We can play Kanter without Melo or Hood and be fine.

We have a really hard time when we play all three of them together.

DJJ is averaging about 27 minutes per game.
GTJ is averaging 24 minutes per game.
Hood is averaging 13 minutes per game.

Sorry but I'd rather see those 13 minutes split between DJJ and GTJ.

I take it you're not big on signing Hood to a $21m deal?
