We are tied 1st with raptors for 42.8 3 attempts . We are shooting 39% compared to raptors 36%. The next team is Jazz with 40 attempts. Warriors are 38.6.

are you guys worried we are going to become houston?i hope not cause we do got bigs but Im wondering 2018 rockets team how many 3s they shot per game and their shooting %...? Cant find answer. . im little ALARMED that we depend so much from 3, but 50% come from Dame and CJ. What are your thoughts? 39% is pretty good considering we shoot 10+ 3s more than many other teams.

For me, I would like to see more ball movement. Three point shots are getting like ISO ball, slow down dribble cross over with a step or hop back three.

Yea but we shoot most 3s out of any team i just find that well little concerned, but I would say compared to 2 years ago we are a better overall shooting team last season we averaged 34 att 3s per game at 37% we ranked 3rd last year

Today's NBA is all about the 3 ball. I like that we lead the league in 3's.

I' more concerned about how their 3 point defense is. If they keep letting teams shoot wide open 3's, that won't be good.

    It's a math day!
Last year we shot 51.4% on 2s and 37.7 on 3s.
or 102.8 points per 100 shots on 2s
and 113 points per 100 shots on 3s

Had we magically been able to shoot only 3s, we would have an extra 10.2 points per 100 shots.

In the past, there was much less of a chance getting fouled taking a 3, but I don't think that's true in the modern NBA.
It's not advanced analytics, it's basic arithmetic. 3s > 2s IF you can get it in the course of running your offense. The Blazers have been able to do that this year, and it's paid off.

note: long 2s are obviously dumb - it's the worst of both worlds.

Shooting 39% from 3 is equivalent to shooting 58.5% on 2-pters.

If you're concerned about shooting so many 3's, do you think we can shoot higher than 58.5% from 2?

If our 3pt percentage starts dropping due to defenses adjusting, then concerns might be valid.

I love it when we whip it around the perimeter to an open 3 pt shooter. However, that does not happen enough.
I do like it when Dame or CJ drive and kick to an open 3 point shooter
I don't mind when Dame or CJ dribble while sizing up the defender before letting it fly
I hate it when our offense is struggling and different players take their turn at the 3 ball when well covered
I definitely do not like forcing off-balanced 3s while hoping to draw a foul. (But not actually getting fouled)
I prefer Dame only take the logo shots when he is on fire

That is an insane percentage too, but obviously heavily influenced by CJ's 44% on nearly 12 attempts a game. There's gonna be some correction here once CJ cools down, but hopefully Roco starts regressing back to > 35% to not let us drop too much as a whole.

No Meyers, no swish3. Maybe he's haunting some Heat thread somewhere.

I don't know whether the analysis exists, but I'm curious if that still holds true when games are looked at individually. The problem with 3pt shooting is the wild swings as players and/or teams go hot and cold. My gut feeling is, that doesn't happen nearly as much with interior play, aka 2pt'ers.

So, while 3's may be worth more overall with the proper shooting percentages, do they actually result in more wins? Are those 3pt % averages artificially high from the scorching hot games, hiding the fact that many games are lost due to cold outside shooting, or does it all average out the same regardless?

unlikely, but I hope that it's not. It'd be kind of sad. Actually, it'd be really sad.

Today's NBA has made the 3 point shot, a bore to watch. Too often it is the only choice rather than the team look for a better option. I don't care what percentage they shoot the ball. It is never high enough from 3 point land for me. Watching so many brick 3's throughout a game, just takes the wind out of my enjoying the 3 point shot in today's game.

I felt that way about slam dunk free throw era ball decades ago...watching Shaq shoot free throws all night is the worst version of the game

    In His Memory,

What Stotts doing? Gary Trent is best 3 point shooter at 46.8%, but playing only 24.1 mpg. He also has best attitude to help us win. Give him more PT, and we will win more.

For the reasons Wizard Mentor mentioned, it would be insane not to make three point shots the main staple of your offense if you have good three point shooters. The Blazers, obviously, have good three point shooters. The old adage of “live by the 3, die by the 3” can be a problem for teams that rely on guys who are just long range gunners. In the Blazers’ case, both Dame and CJ excel at creating other shots if the 3 pointers aren’t dropping. Given all of that, I’m happy about our offense.
