No. 6 Kansas gets 11th Big 12 road win in row, 93-64 at TCU

Not even Kansas coach Bill Self was going to look for something nitpick about the No. 6 Jayhawks after an impressive bounce-back game played without their senior starting point guard.

David McCormack had a season-high 20 points to lead five Kansas players in double figures, and the Jayhawks beat TCU 93-64 on Tuesday night to match their own Big 12 record by winning their 11th consecutive conference road game.

McCormack scores 17 as No. 6 Kansas edges Oklahoma, 63-59

The message from Kansas coach Bill Self to his team was simple: You played lousy for 20 minutes and you're still in the game, tailing Oklahoma by just two points at halftime.

Quite the compliment, in a roundabout way — and an odd but effective way to provide some confidence.

The sixth-ranked Jayhawks leaned on that message throughout the second half Saturday, turning their showdown with the short-handed Sooners into a nip-and-tuck game that went down to the end. David McCormack hit the clinching short hook shot with 12.8 seconds to go, giving him 17 points and Kansas a hard-earned 63-59 victory.

Jones' 3 lifts No. 4 Texas over No. 14 West Virginia 72-70

Three years to the day since Texas coach Shaka Smart told his players that Andrew Jones had been diagnosed with leukemia, the junior guard put his latest stamp on what is turning into a special season for the Longhorns.

Jones hit a 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left to lift the fourth-ranked Longhorns to a 72-70 victory over No. 14 West Virginia on Saturday.

Butler erupts for 28 as Baylor men roll past TCU, 67-49

TCU guard Desmond Bane is gone to the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies, but his departure didn’t stop Baylor from getting off to a slow start at Schollmaier Arena.

After the Bears missed nine of 10 first-half 3-pointers, Mike Miles gave the Horned Frogs a one-point lead going into halftime by banking in a 3-pointer that sailed two-thirds of the court at the buzzer.

But the Bears flipped the script and looked more like the nation's No. 2 team in the second half.

With preseason All-American Jared Butler finishing with a season-high 28 points, the Bears dominated the second half to ease to a 67-49 win Saturday afternoon.

Hepa scores 15 as No. 14 Texas romps over K-State 82-67

A depleted roster forced Texas deep into its bench for seldom-used Kamaka Hepa, whose biggest moments this season have been as the Longhorns’ biggest cheerleader on the sideline.

Given his chance, Hepa delivered the big shots on the court Saturday night, scoring 15 points as the No. 4 Longhorns rebounded from their first Big 12 loss of the season by beating Kansas State 82-67.

No. 24 UCLA overcomes sloppy play to beat Cal 61-57

Not long after punctuating his 21st birthday with a clutch 3-pointer for UCLA, Jules Bernard had to think quickly when teammate Russell Stong tried to douse him with a celebratory bottle of water.

"I saw him. He was coming with the cap off," Bernard said. "I saw him lurking."

Bernard persuaded Stong to hold off on the water, but the Bruins still had fun celebrating with the birthday boy.

Cody Riley scored 13 points, Bernard made the crucial 3-pointer with 2:08 remaining and the 24th-ranked Bruins shook off a mistake-filled night to beat California 61-57 on Thursday.

Baylor's depth and experience eventually overwhelmed an Oklahoma State team that was missing star freshman Cade Cunningham due to COVID-19 protocols.

Jared Butler scored 22 points, and the second-ranked Bears rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Oklahoma State 81-66 on Saturday.
