Yeah I’m not saying he should continue shooting if he’s 1 for 12 or whatever, but generally speaking, an open Covington shot is still a good shot and what he’s going through right now is most likely just a slump that he can only get out of by continuing to shoot. It happens to every player at some point.

Thanks but honestly it was crazy. I watched it night after night.
I really liked Aminu the person. Great, hard working. He gave it everything every night. He just had his limitations and they were obvious.

Kanter plays so much better as a starter. I think Jones and Covington have a lot to do with that. (and of course Dame)

Jones adds a lot to this team. They need him on the floor in crunch time, but much like Aminu he should not take any 3s in the last 5 minutes of a close game. Terry needs to figure something out. As long as he is left alone, Dame will keep passing to him and occasionally he will make a few but sticking him on the perimeter to spread the floor doesn't work if no one covers him.

1-11 from deep from our starting forwards is depressing.

Giles looked like he did in the preseason. Hustles and passes well. Unlike Nurk and Kanter he actually gets to a loose rebound if the ball hits the floor. I anticipate him getting better with more time

Seemed like a lot of our shots tonight in the paint were in and out. And conversely, ATL had a bunch that were in, out, and in.

    Dame + 18, Jones +15, and Kanter +16 (a little higher than I thought)

I agree with this. He also brings size and energy on defense. He needs to be a part of this team for them to have a decent season.

I'm with you on the slump part. I guess where I disagree (about Hood) is that he needs more shots to get out of his slump. I haven't seen anything that backs up increasing your shot volume makes you a better shooter. Guess it's a whole cause/effect argument we'll never know!

He took a few ill-advised 3s tonight that he needs to stop taking. Wide-open on the wing is one thing, but taking them from the top when covered......needs to stop.

It's really awesome. We have THREE players scoring double figures off the bench. Well 2 now since Kanter has to start. Still, it's pretty awesome. When is the last time we had three guys off the bench scoring double figures? Has it ever happened? Maybe 1999?

So true. However, he did hit a few clutch 3s over the years, which gave him the confidence to keep shooting them.
I had flashbacks watching Jones tonight. Again I want Jones in there, I just don't like him sitting on the perimeter.
But holy hell the alley-oop dunk on the break was reminiscent of Porter to Clyde.

You forgot to add Layman, Harkless, Aminu, Skal, Whiteside, Kanter (in Boston), Matthews, Lopez, Plumlee, Blake, Ed Davis, Meyers, Vonleh, Turner, Aldridge, Baldwin, Stauskas, etc.... The list of players who have left Portland recently and blossomed into something so much more amazing than they were in Portland is long.

I like a starting lineup of:

    Dame, CJ, DDJ, Melo, Kanter

    then bring in:

    Trent, RoCo, Giles

then filter in: Hood, Simmons (and we need a legit PG reserve!)

but the two starting forwards are not scoring - so we fall way behind and have to play catch up in every game?

I kinda agree about getting Trent more looks, but that doesn’t necessarily mean putting the ball in his hands more as a ballhandler. He’s got a post game, he consistently showed it in the g league when I watched. Reminded me of Matthews. We almost never run any of those type of plays for him. It’s either a three or something off the dribble. Cut the dribble plays out and put him in the post and let him use his body against smaller dudes.

With Nurk out, it was Giles chance to shine.
He only got 11 minutes, which was less minutes than Hood got, who somehow decreased his season fg% of 20%.

Really enjoyed the increased tenacity, at least attempting to play defense, and 6 players in double figures. Much more fun to watch than Iso-ville.
It just seems too coincidental that as soon as CJ went out, the defense, and the effort, went up markedly.

Can't say it enough... Personnel impacts outcome far more than anything else.

Sure, if we gave Crabbe more rope we would have known not to pay him 18mil per season but we were banking on him improving.

    Get it now?

The Hood thing is fair, but I'm ok with working in Giles as we go - Hood has been a legitimate NBA starter who right now is trying to find his way back. Giles is still learning the game and how to contribute.
