I would return to that era in an instant if we were actually a contender again.

Not a shooting guard. We have plenty of shooting guards.

    Hood/Trent/Simons/Elleby..... we have that covered.

I'm opposed to it for a very specific reason: I could not stand to hear Jordan Kent say "KEVIN PORTER JUNIOR!!!" over and over

if Trent, Jones and Porter were all on the floor at the same time, I'd have to gouge my eardrums out

You've been painting the forum red with how useless Hood is, and we all have been pointing out how useless Simons is. Trent can and should start from now on at SG, but I don't think we have a decent, reliable guard behind Lillard and Trent now.

I wasn't putting them in order of how I would play them.

That wasn't my point. You named two players who have been terrible (at least one of which YOU'VE been campaigning about how terrible he is) as the kind of depth that proves we don't need any more non-point guards.

And Elleby hardly counts. He's played all of 34 minutes--he's a complete unknown.

So basically we have starters at guard (Lillard and Trent), two players who have managed to provide no value this year, and a rookie who has barely played. Yeah, we need off guards.

Hood has not been much to look at this year. Elleby, just no. Simons, he's had his chances and then some and other than the rare "oh, maybe he'll work out after all" flash, I see someone who is, at best, a role player.

With respect to Trent, I love the guy but his game is not well rounded. His defense is pretty darn good. 3 point shooting is a bit streaky but good. Passing & rebounding, not so much.

As we've seen in the past (just look at last game), when CJ is not around, when Dame is out, so is our team. There is nobody to lead, to guide, to pass or make plays. It becomes not just a Melo iso-attack, it essentially becomes five guys pretending to play together by occasionally passing the ball but realistically is five-way-iso-ball. Not a recipe for any kind of success.

Don't know that Porter, Jr is the answer but our current situation is looking pretty abysmal unless, somehow a miracle happens and Simons suddenly becomes a semi-legitimate PG (even a lo-cal version compared with his current no-cal version).

    Gramps...

A point guard, or at least someone that can effectively handle the ball, is a much more pressing need than another shooter.

Sure, if one can be found. But any kind of guard is a pressing need now, so I'd definitely take a flier on Porter Jr. We currently have no proven, usable guards right now past the starters.

Honestly I disagreed and said it was a line because for the past 6 seasons CJ has been our starting SG and backup PG but when Olshey said Ant is our backup PG he was unfortunately prophetically correct. That's what we have to roll with. Dame shouldn't be playing more than 36 minutes per game. His health and longevity are too important to this team and there is no guarantee that CJ is back in a month. So we need to get used to Ant playing 12 minutes per game... even if those minutes suck.

Gary and Hoodie, hopefully in that order can handle all of the minutes at SG. Hoodie will also log minutes at SF as well. I honestly think our two starting forwards are going to start looking a lot better on offense and have been really good on D. Melo should get like 15 minutes per game but will probably log 20. Enes should get like 30+ minutes at C and Giles should get the rest. I don't think any of our forwards are right to play small ball 5 but maybe that's just me.

All of this is unless we can somehow pry Shake Milton away from Philly for Ant or for picks or for Ant and picks.

We don't need Jail Blazer era back. What we got now is great family team with friendly coach and we doin just fine. There is some lack of effort daily but there is no anger on the court whatsoever. Blazers are role models. Let's keep it save. We don't need change of direction badly. No.

Houston is acquiring Kevin Porter Jr. for a protected 2nd round pick! Low risk, high reward move.

Great job Neil. Just continue to sit on your ass.
