Only option I see in a center deal is Ryan Johansen. Nashville has some cap room. He's 8 million on the cap for another 5 years. He's a plus faceoff guy. He'll do much better here with our wings. He's much better than Strome. He was excellent last year in the few playoffs games he played. If Strome was on the Preds he would be lucky to get 30 points. You send back DeAngelo and Strome, get Johansen and a couple of seconds, problem potentially solved. Nashville's PP is 6.3% now. They need a quarterback on the point. I don't see how they could resist that deal.

Florida is not dealing Barkov. He's 25 on a great contract.

Nashville would want more than Strome and DeAngelo, I have no doubt about that. But I could see us having some interest in him if he were to become available.

As for Barkov, he is a UFA after next season, and it doesn't appear he'll re-sign with Florida. So after this season/next season he very well could be available. We certainly have the players to give them a major return. We'll see, but we need to find a top 6 C somewhere.

Barkov will probably want a bigger stage and Florida doesn't look like a team that's really going anywhere. We could probably afford 10m though it may be very tight with Kakko, Igor, Laf, Fox making 3-4m in another 2y, plus Zib needing renewal. I'm not sure whether i see Eichel leaving Buffalo but that would be great.

You aren't keeping Kakko most likely if you traded for Dubois or Barkov. I'm quite sure if scouts were watching Miller they will demand him. Eichel will be interesting. That team is off to a shitty start again. Chytil is starting to show something now. You would think Buffalo would be younger on defense but other than 2 guys, they aren't. That team is incompetent. Eichel has a 10 million cap hit forever. I don't see them being a match in a deal for us. I would think they will try to build around Eichel and Cozens down the middle. Don't agree with Florida not going anywhere. That kid Knight they drafted in the first round last year looks like a stud, superstar goalie in waiting. I like Tippet a lot as a prospect who has made the jump to the NHL. They are actually a team that needs to upgrade their defense on the club and in the farm. If they can do that, they could be really dangerous in 2 years.

That's fair on Florida. They do always have a decent pipeline and Knight should be good. They'll probably buy out Bob in a few years. Guess with Barkov it will come down to where he wants to go or stay if he hits the UFA market. With the Sabres they need a future goaltender in the worst way. I'd say maybe Georgiev could be an option but he's not a #1.

I think Georgiev is a number 1 if you put him on a team with a solid defensive system. We wouldn't know that since Quinn is lost on how to coach a defensive system.

To me in order to win a cup you need to be strong down the middle. We have Ziban and that's it with regards to C's on that top level. Chytil has looked good thus far, but he's not there. Maybe he can become a # 2 C for us, but he'll need to get much stronger on the puck, and improve on FO's greatly.

I think we have the prospects on D to get where we need to be on the backend over the next year or two. We have the talent on the wings that's for sure. I hope we have the talent in goal with Igor and Georgiev. We need a legit top 6 C, that can win FO's, and maybe even add some grit. That's the big missing piece to take us to the next level.

A top 6 C is a need we must fill externally if we are to be a complete team and take the turn to being a legit SC team.

The plus is we certainly have the trade assets. We will have good cap flexibility with a boatload of dead cap space (just under 9 mill) and Smith off after this season. And after the 2021-2022 season we also have 9.3 mill coming off the cap with DeAngelo and Strome up (hopefully they are both moved before then).

So things are aligning for us to take that next step after this season, as the kids get one more year of experience. Now Gorton has the tough task of identifying the C we can add to the team to put us over the top.

I don't think it's worth overpaying for a #2C when you still don't know what you have in the young players and there's no window shutting necessitating a panic trade. Unless the trade involves us losing Strome/Tony D/Smith I'd have to be bowled over to give up unknown talent. I see Chytil as the #2, all that's holding him back now is face offs. I would rather see all these young players get a season and make a move/trade next year if necessary. I would love to see this team sneak into the playoffs for the added experience but the priority this year is evaluating youth. Free agent centers I like - Mark Jankowski, Mikhail Grigorenka, Sean Kuraly, Phillip Danault.

I think overpay is relative. I wouldn't give away the farm either, we agree. But am I willing to move a select couple of higher rated kids, yes I am. At some point law of averages and playing time that have to be in the mix as well. Law of averages being we have so many pretty highly rated kids, they will all not hit and be very good NHL players. And most importantly, even if a good % of the kids do hit and turn out to be very good players, there won't be enough open spots to play them all.

So I agree let's not get crazy and deal a whole bunch of kids, but if you said deal 2 or 3 kids, and maybe a pick for the right very legit top 6 C to finish of this team, I do for sure. I am talking Eichel and Barkov class. Not a second rate borderline top 6 C. That's not the guy we need. The C's you mention I don't think move the needle. Doesn't mean one wouldn't add some depth, they would, but to take the next step, and the type of player I am talking about, we need someone much higher on the food chain than that.

Plus, with a very tight NHL cap, it gets late earlier than you think with regards to being able to afford everyone for a long period of time.

Jankowski was 88% on faceoffs for Pitt tonight, I see him as a huge upgrade to Strome. Former 3rd pick who has been excellent on faceoffs and shouldn't cost anything near what a Barkov or Eichel will.

Looking forward salary wise the Rangers lose Smith and Johnson(+$5.5) dead money from Shat/ Hank(+$8.5 mil). RFAs - Buch, Chytil, DiGiuseppe, Gauthier, Howden, Lindgren Shesty (about $8.5 mil). Buch is making $3.25 while the other 5 make under $1 mil. I don't see how the Rangers can make any deal for a legit #2C unless it involves the other team taking on Strome or CK.

No doubt DeAngelo and/or Strome need to be gone when the Rangers add a top 6 C. I fully expect that will be the case. I don't think either of those guys are on the team after this season, and certainly not on the team after next season.

Howden, Strome or Lemieux will be gone to Seattle. Digiseuppe is a UFA after the year but his $$ is minimal and will just be replaced by Barron. Can't see them trading Kreider, for a few years at least.

The Rangers are $466k under the cap now. Barkov makes $5.9 with one year left so it's doable if Florida is willing to take back Tony D or Strome but then he's an UFA who may want $8+ and Eichel makes $10mil - ain't happening. The guys I mention are very good on faceoffs and most importantly in the Rangers price range.

Barkov isn't going anywhere. He's 25 and has 100 point potential. Stick with getting Johansen if you can get a couple of seconds back and trade DeAngelo and Strome back. Johansen is about a 52-53 % faceoff guy. He checks in at about 55 to 65 points every year on a team without nearly the talent on wings that this team will have. It's a good stop gap for 3-4 years. If Barkov ever was available it's going to cost you a crap load of young, talented, guys that will be cheap for years. Makes no sense. Better off dealing 2 guys not in our long term plans for Johansen. Plus, it frees up a spot for Schneider or Lundkvist.

Barkov absolutely could be going somewhere if he won't re-sign with Florida/Florida doesn't want to pay him. He is a UFA after next season. By around next year at this time we'll have a good idea what Barkov's future is. If he wants to stay, I agree he won't get dealt, but that is not determined yet.

I wouldn't mind Johansen as a fallback though at 8 mill per. But for 2 mill more give me Eichel.

The $$ wouldn't be a problem fitting Barkov/Eichel but I'm not sure about trading for Barkov, instead I'd rather wait perhaps until his UFA summer. Of course he could be traded somewhere else and sign there which is a risk. Eichel i guess is obv. a trade deal and would probably cost a Chytil, Kravtsov, young D guy plus at least a 1st. Johansen is certainly a really good player but i don't know that Nashville is open to dealing him, yet.

Johnson is a good short term fallback for a couple of years especially if it rids us of strome and D’Angelo. I think however, the big get I’m keeping my eye on for the rangers is not barkov but eichel.

I would prefer Eichel to Barkov, but I would be fine with either, and view Barkov as a potential back up option if we cannot get Eichel. My guess is Barkov is either signed by next year at this time, or he gets dealt at the trade DL. No way Florida risks letting him walk for nothing.

If only Tony D and Strome held the same value in other GM's eyes these trades would be much simpler. Johansen, Barkov Eichel all bring a price that will strengthen the Rangers at #2C but weaken them elsewhere. Tony D would be gone already if there was any interest in him, resigning him when you have a better version in Fox was a bad move by Gorton. If I'm the GM of FL, Buff, Nash I want Miller, Chytil, or Kakko for a stud center.

    Salaries of UFAs I like - Jankowsi - $700k, Grigorenka $1.2, Kuraly $1.275, Danault $3
