He is the commisioner of the NBA, I think he must have had a role in this game - I believe that he has somewhat of an influence in all this - but it is all just untraceable. imagine what would happen if Stern was caught in this..wow

What do you think

Stern makes about eight million dollars per year. He has no financial motive. This isn't a conspiracy.
I trust that Stern wasn't aware of it until the FBI notified him, but, still he knew for quite some time. The FBI advised him not to take any action so they can build up their case. This is how you take down organized crime. You do not slap their wrist for minor offenses. You let the situation play out until there is enough evidence to properly prosecute for a high crime.
Ive heard it reported that Stern clears $18 mil a year....based on what Stern said in his press conference, it looks like the NBA figured out something was up really quickly and decided to fire him, but the FBI asked them not to, so they could continue to gather evidence....I agree with Premier though about the motive, there just no way Stern would be involved for the money....
I don't accept that he or other league officials didn't know anything about the whole mess. I kinda believe that a lot of them are involved. Not sure about Stern, but wouldn't be surprised if he was.
I agree that 8 mill a year is plenty (for you and me) but for rich people is nothing, they want more and more, they never want to stop.

QUOTE (Theo)

Which actually reminds me --> how exactly was Donaghy caught?

Apparently, from what I remember reading, his name came up in a phone conversation that the FBI had tapped, and they decided to investigate.
As far as Stern being involved, I just can't see that being true. Think about it... the man spends all this time focusing on making his league and his players look perfect, so why would he risk undoing all of that buy involving himself in fixing games? It makes no sense to me... and if he was somehow involved in all of this, and it is proven that he was, then I think it will be the end of the NBA as we know it. There is absolutely no way that the league would survive the PR disaster that would ensue if Stern is shown to be involved in all of this...

I dont think Stern had anything to do with this and would be the last guy in the entire universe to be involved. After all Stern has done for the NBA and the game of basketball there is no way he had anything to do with this. I seriously doubt he even knew much if anything was going on until the FBI gave him the info. I think Stern is the best commissioner in sports and he would be the last person to be involved in something like this.
