Honestly I’d do it for Randle and an unprotected 1st. JR is a beast and would provide some toughness. The first in this draft could easily end up being a starter. The Knicks have enough cap room to absorb the salary difference which would also be good for us.

I’d also offer some sort of package revolving around CJ/Nurk for KAT. Minny has the worst record in the League again and maybe they would be willing to listen. KAT might not play D but that just means he would fit in.

    Dame/Simons
    Trent/Hood
    DJJ/Nas
    RoCo/Melo/Collins
    KAT/Kanter

    That’s ^ a WCF team imo.

I really think that we can get Randle and Rivers for CJ and that's the max value. We're not getting any of their young pieces or picks if we get Randle... and I think if the Knicks are interested in CJ they have to think that they're giving up Randle in that deal.

Randle, Rivers and either Barrett or Toppin for CJ.

Actually Trent is more likely to be traded before we have to pay him..we're not paying big money to 3 guards going into next season and he's built trade value.....

I guess it's a homer board here, but I'm still kind of shocked people think we can get Randle + anything else of value for CJ. Straight across CJ for Randle may even be a little lopsided in our favor. He's 3 years younger, $10m cheaper., about 4 inches taller.

Wait, does New York have his Bird Rights?

If we can be pretty certain of signing him long-term, I'd be fine with trading straight across for CJ. It's New York, so there's always the possibility of extracting more when you are dealing with incompetence, but it's not absolutely necessary.

Man i sure hope not. The Guy is Ginobili for this team. Both second rounders and pretty much the same size. Both shot well and were a spark of energy. A bunch of years Manu played off the bench and people always figured he could start on a different team. Biggest difference Manu had a better assist rate and way better 2pt percentage. Trent shoots the three better.

I'd agree if Trent had taken the extension but he didn't...he wants a big payday that with Dame and CJ we really can't give him in my view...had he done what Nurk did and take a team friendly 4 year deal I defintely would keep him....as it is he could put us in repeater tax or start elsewhere....

I think that the main reason Olshey is sticking to his guns on not going into the Luxury Tax this season is so the Blazers won’t be repeaters next year when they do go above the threshold. I don’t think that they will let Gary go for nothing. They will match any offers he gets and then do a trade later to dump salary.

Fully agreed. I thought the same, as well, when thinking of potentially getting Randle. Even straight across for CJ would favor us.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
It really depends. If we were talking about CJ coming into this season, I'd agree. But CJ's hot start to this season at least opens up the possibility that he's jumped up to a new level of performance. The CJ of this season is much more valuable than Randle, by all the advanced measures, but how sure are you that he'll keep it up? At that precise level, I'm pretty doubtful. But I do think he might sustain some of the gain, so then it's an issue of how much. Trading CJ now is a major risk for one team--Portland if they trade him for his value coming into this season and the other team if they trade for him at superstar value.

I'd say the main reason for Olshey avoiding the tax are instructions from Seattle regarding repeater tax. Before PA died, he explicitly said Portland would not pay the repeater tax for any reason. He also said something to the effect of "we might pay tax for a year or two, every once in a while, but not much more often than that"....of course, that could have just been further reference to the repeater tax

can the Knicks trade Derrick Rose yet?

trading CJ for Randle and Rose seems like a good trade for Portland. Moves RoCo to SF and adds a high level backup PG

That's a pretty good point. Especially with the recent example of Jamal Murray. I mean when Harden seemed available there wasn't any talk at ALL about including Murray in a trade deal. But post-bubble Murray seems like a pretty terrible idea to give a max contract to.

If I'm the Knicks, I'd look at the times where Dame had to sit with an injury and look at CJ's numbers and game tape. CJ looks pretty fucking good even in past years. Maybe not like he was playing this year, but pretty damned good.

But yeah, CJ is definitely having a superstar year this year. I talk a lot about trading CJ, but it's not because I hate him. I'd really like to see him run his own team. He really deserves it.

It would probably be at least a Top-3 protected 1st. With that, I'd want one of their unipressive youngs (Barret/Knox/Toppin).

NY gets the best player in the deal by far even though Randle is finally having a nice season. However, Portland gets help up front and someone who can be a bit of a creator/play maker from somewhere other than the small guard spots.

It's honestly just as surprising to me that people are valuing Randle as a star. I'm not the biggest fan of CJ, but Randle was the definition of empty stats before this season. I feel like the optimism with him would fade quickly once you see him in Stotts's defensive schemes.

while Randle's defense is lacking his offense/rebounding/assists are very good and he's even shooting 41% from 3 this year, I believe he has one yr left after this at near 19-20 mil. Given how well we are playing without CJ adding a player like this and perhaps another one or two with our already very good depth make me like this idea
