Melo isn’t a center on any team’s depth chart. He’s just the next tallest guy until either Giles or Nurk gets back. Find me another equally defensively dreadful planned center rotation than Kanter and the current edition of Boogie.

Maybe, but current Boogie is not greater than Nurk. The original post I responded to proposed trading Nurk to Houston for Boogie, Tucker and our pick back. Not a fan of that idea at all. Getting Boogie on a cheap deal to help patch up the 5 spot lineup until Nurk returns? Sure, if we can stay under the LT threshold. A long term commitment to a regular diet of Kanter and Boogie at 5? Pass.

yeah I agree. Trading Nurk is a stupid idea that seemingly the same handful of people are pushing.

Fair enough. In 2010-11 the Blazers had Sean Marks and Earl Barron with Fabrico Oberto after Joel Prybilla and Marcus Camby got hurt.
    Top that one.... :smiley-hang:

I think they signed a 10 contract with Chris Johnson?

Giles may not be the best answer at C for the Blazers....but my goodness do they miss him from a size standpoint.

Last night's loss was just enough to put the Blazers below the Nets. If both teams put in a waiver claim on Boogie - Portland would get him.

I just find it incredibly doubtful that he's coming to Portland.

how does that even work, is it based on record at the time they put in the claim or is it at the time the waiver process ends?

Also, would claiming him cost the same as signing him?

I imagine it is the record of each team when the waiver process begins, but am not certain.

As for claiming him, you claim a player at their current salary. I believe he was on a minimum contract, however, so I don't believe there's much difference between claiming and signing. Claiming would just be to ensure you actually land him.

Claiming his contract, is essentially the same as him being 'traded'. His whole minimum contract salary (for the entire year - or $2.3M) gets put on Portland's payroll (and tax) calculations.

IF he clears waivers, then Cousin gets to pick where he wants to go from the available suitors and contract offers.

Assuming he chooses Portland on a minimum contract - Cousins would cost Portland ~$1.1M for the rest of the year.

Sounds like the Lakers waived a guy to give them a roster spot and under the hard cap, so I suspect he will sign there.
