I dont think protestors are vandalizing much. I think vandals are vandalizing much. In the cover of darkness. I never feel unsafe cuz im used to it but Portland is like mad max. Even my buddy from Seattle remarked how different things were here.

So you are okay with big brother tossing its eyes everywhere?

i thought the issue was corruption, but the answer is to give them big brother visuals and then trust that the footage they put out is accurate?

It's not an excuse. But vandalism in Portland has always happened and gone unpunished. It's nothing new. If we want to solve the increased amount of vandalism we'll need to make people unmiserable enough that they don't want to protest.

If the video is easily accessible by the general public it is only a public safety tool. It's when only the police have access to it or requires an attorney to help a citizen get copies of footage is when you get corruption.

I'm fine with police having cameras when the data is controlled by a third party. Isn't that better than just taking the word of the police? It's far more difficult to doctor a video than tell a lie.

well it seems now you are shifting the cause of the vandalism from cop killing minorities to economic divisions?

The police are going to be dealing with this until we solve the economic problems. The less stability people have the worse this will get. And at no point will I support police arresting or harrassing people without evidence.

This is a fantastic book with some truly mind blowing information about the criminal history of Portland. By a local reporter and author, Phil Stanford.

No, it's the same problem. It's about government treating the poor and week as livestock that they can abuse. This is something that should be discouraged.

So so you think we should have cameras recording our every move outside our homes and live feeding to a broadcast company of some sort? The only way to trust its real and not compromised would be to see it on real time, no?

I've been on the fence on this for a bit now.
I used to be full on against it. But then i see jerkoffs cutting people off on the roads and wish there were cameras. So im not sure myself

I don't think so. I think police and anybody allowed to use deadly force in the name of the government should have their every move recorded while they are on duty.

Show me a government without corruption?

Capitalism provides an ability for the dedicated to work harder and get ahead. There are flaws, like all, but i believe the average american has it better than most people in the world and most of our ancestors who lived under different government styles.

oh i agree with that. But that isnt what you said.
I was referring to you talking about police using drones to videotape protestors looking for vandals.

I think we introduce them in the downtown core and see how it goes from there. If they help to reduce crime without violating civil rights we then look to carefully expand it.

I am concerned about putting public cameras in private neighborhoods because it could make it easier for criminals to know when people are home or not and their schedules for when to break into houses and/or other crimes.

Is there some reason a protest should not be on video? There is a big difference between being on video at all times in all places and being on video because you're part of a public demonstration...

i suppose id be for that. Having lived downtown two separate times in two different areas in two different stages of my life, ive seen some crazy shit that i know cameras would have detered.
But it becomes real grey, that right to privacy and where do we cross the lines? There are residential sections downtown as well.
