@HolyBackboard ... agreed this is such a problem.
"CJ and Melo were extremely inefficient on volume shooting (16-44 FG...36%), while the rest of the team was over 50% (26-50 FG)."

The rest of the team was doing just fine until MEj and MElo made the end of the game all about themselves, their shots, and their lack of defense.

They completely ignore the rest of their team unless the game colwell no other options.

It's part of the reason I think this team would be better to move on from both of them and also move on from Stotts who allows and enables it.

    So?

Do you think Lillard is the type of guy to throw his coach under the bus publicly. Nor does Lillard have to realize it’s a coaching issue, for it to be one. We need new ideas.

I'm just providing Lillards thoughts on the subject; I do think he may have slightly more insight on what is said at practice, pre-game, huddles, etc. It's possible he has no clue what the issues are.

I do not expect him to throw his coach under the bus anymore than his teammates.

Just last night, we had someone on this board implying that Dame doesn't even speak to Stotts anymore. If that were true, I have no clue why he would say the defensive issues were on his teammates, not his coach.

We all know his thoughts on the subject. If he knew what the issues are, hed probably come up with a better response than "We just have to decide to give more consistent effort" and they likely wouldve improved at it a little bit.

It's a bummer if our best player doesn't have a better grasp for our defensive issues than most of us. If he's clueless as well, we're in deeper trouble than even I imagined.

He didn't talk to stotts first about coming back. He told Haynes.

How do I know that? Because timeliness.

The coach has lost the team. Just accept that I'm right, because I am.

    Valiant losing effort though. Cheers!

Every other team replaces its coach long before fans have demanded it for years. Only Jody Allen makes her coach endure this long indignity. Other owners stay ahead of the curve, not years behind it.

To be fair to Jody, didn’t she take over the team the year they made it to the conference final? If so then of course she’s gonna extend Stotts. She couldn’t fired Stotts last year because of something in his contract. But this year is the first year she can fired him, and I bet she will

I'm thinking she will sell by the start of next season. She knows most Portland fans will never be happy unless they are fighting for the finals every year. You can't count on her getting advise from the Vulcan pulpit with regards to PDX Small Town mentality. The Vulc's probably never really Liked Pauls love of the game and his unfeigned loyalty to the team/city.

It’s easier to spread the blame collectively. Also he’s one of our biggest issues defensively.

I thought a well rested Lillard would come out guns a blazing. He was clanking 3 after 3.

I don’t think with the way Lillards been playing he should have any say of who the coach is.

Isn’t Bert Kolde one of the higher ups with Vulcan? He has been best buds with PA since the beginning. He’s a basketball nerd too and a NW guy. I don’t think he’d have much of a desire to move the Blazers

If we lose back to back games against the Grizzlies I think Stotts gets shit canned.

It’s a possibility we do lose both. Grizzlies are a hungry team and they just got back arguably their best player from injury.

Could be the Tibbett’s show to close out the season.

I disagree, unfortunately. He's here until the season is done.

5 years too late, but at least it'll happen.

Yep, I believe he only reports to Jody. Maybe he wouldn't want to move but he may want to sell and cash in as other Vulcans may too. He could still purchase season tickets. lol
Between the Seachickens & Sounders it wouldn't be like them selling a home town team, it would selling/spinning off a satellite operation. My hope would be a local group would purchase the Franchise, M Paulson and his connections could do it possibly, but he 's the type of owner Id liked.

Actually, Ive like Morant ever since he won the summer league a few years back. His demeanor is balance as he can get in players face with enthusiasm. He's a tough hombre that knows the game and he really did coach that summer league team well.
Not saying he should be Portland coach but he will end up somewhere.

Fire Olshey and Stotts the moment the regular season is over if we aren't the sixth seed or higher.

I really think that with how great some of the teams in our conference have looked this year and with how awful we've looked as of late (coming up a possession short against a Murray-less Nuggets team is nothing to hang your hat on) we need to make the biggest change possible if we find ourselves in the play-ins because that would be a hopeless spot. If we make the playoffs outright then wait until we're out of them but if we don't, that is such a monumental failure given how the team held the line while the second and third best players were out and the fact that we added a starter at the deadline. That isn't me saying that CJ, Nurk and Powell are the right pieces to have elevated us. They aren't and that along with a myriad of other things that include Stotts still being here is why Olshey and Stotts should go.

I just think that whoever is on this team next season that is currently on the team needs a bold wake up call that scraping the bottom of the playoff barrel is not acceptable in any way... not when your GM and head coach keep on touting you as a championship roster. If you evaluate your team as a contender and come up this short after having control of the team for so long, then you're out. Firing them after the season would be somewhat expected by players, so this should be done to shock them and show them that we the organization doesn't accept failure like this. Get the search for the next GM going right away so you can name them the moment the season ends and then they can get the coaching search done and decision announced before the draft.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Not if Olshey remains GM, IMO. From what I've gathered of Olshey, he's not a "replace/start over" guy, he's a "I like what we have, let's build on it" guy. He likes his roster and he likes his head coach.

Real change, to the roster and to the coaching staff, will only happen with a new GM, I'm fairly sure.

So it comes down to whether Allen/Vulcan are prepared to fire and replace Olshey.
