By the way, if anyone wants to make this hire for equality, you need to find another business. Sports is a meritocracy, period. If Hammond is the best, so be it. She should be hired. However, her gender shouldn't matter one way or another.
Heads up: if you don’t believe a word of this fine. Do not care. Thought I would share what I heard today from two people who I have known for 20+ years who work in the NBA and one directly connected to Spurs. Carry on. Definitely not worth it I guess. Fuck it.
I wonder why there should be a risk In firing her? She should be viewed no different than a guy assistant same as considering her for any position. A team can fire and hire who they wish, imo.
Maybe Olshey has heard the same rumors and that is why they've scheduled Berry to interview. The best way to dig up dirt on someone is to interview their co-worker for the same job.
Honestly the one fear I have about hiring Hammon is that if she’s a miss, we won’t fire her because of how it would look. This is the team that sat on Stotts for 9 years. It could take years to move on from Hammon if she’s a bad fit.
I can 100% promise you it would not be the same as firing a guy. They would have people who have never watched an NBA game in their life sending them hate mail.
Shit, so easy for anyone to spew hate anymore, you cant be held hostage if ownership wants to fire someone.
It shouldn't be, but it probably would be. Tho, did the NBA get any backlash when they fired that one female ref a few years back?
yes she should be viewed equally, but let’s be real, she isn’t. If she got fired hell would break loose, almost like it will if/when Olshey passes, but worse.
I think if she was the only female ref it would matter. They pretty consistently have women refs though.
Imagine the outrage if Olshey passes on both a woman and a minority. The car salesman in him is gonna have to put in an extra shift.
Honest question on if they hire Becky: would we be allowed to criticize her coaching without instantly being labeled sexist? I'm all for her being the coach, I can just see a bunch of outside noise always surrounding it.
It seemed inevitable that this was Terry's last year with the Blazers. It was time. But what was also inevitable was the lack of candidates to replace him. Very depressing. IMO professional male athletes can be a little chauvinistic. No matter which new HC they bring in that person better commands their respect from the start. And if it's a woman HC, she will really have to be twice as impressive. Not sure if Chauncey is the right guy, but watching him with the Clipper players on the bench....I believe they respect him. Now granted I have not watched Becky on the bench with the SA players, so I don't know if the same is true.
If she were, SA would send the message that she's going to be Pop's eventual replacement and she would be untouchable.
