(Admin approved) Hi together, I am currently doing a university research project on how fans of the Blazers perceive the team (e.g. how attached fans feel to the team) and what they think about the sustainability activities of the Blazers (e.g. Live Greener Challenge 2019; local food suppliers). As I am highly interested into your opinions I would like to hear what you think about the sustainability activities of the Blazers (or if you know about them?) and I also would like to ask you if you can share some time with me to answer my questionnaire (takes around 10mins but is quite interesting ) under the following link: https://tummgmt.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cSWG1vfHlI538ea Data will be treated confidential and anonymized. I would also like to share my findings with you later (the last think I can do) if you are interested into them. Thanks in advance and if you have any questions feel free to ask! Lennart
Blazers have been doing sustainability in the arena as I recall. Different bins for recycling trash and biomass? It’s kind of up to the patrons to follow through.
This is a question for me after they hire the new coach and adjust the roster..right now there are big question marks surrounding what this team will look like going into next season..
It's not really here nor there though. Regardless of what the roster composition is, you'd expect a Portland team to promote and utilize sustainability efforts like recycling and healthier food. Portland exudes that in its identity as a city. It's not hard to anticipate the Blazers following suit and perhaps being a shepard of those practices in the NBA.
I can't speak to that...I do know I didn't really see healthy food much when I went to a game at Moda....saw more hot dogs, soda pop and beer and nachos.....things that are pretty far from "health foods"...don't know what their HVAC system is like or what their carbon footprint is....I know the Kings lead the league in green technology with their new arena..I'm all for reducing the carbon footprint though
i started the survey, but how the hell would i know about their sustainability efforts? Was there a big push for this that fans would know or care about?
Well, I think that's part of the reason behind the survey. To research whether fans know or don't know about the Blazers sustainability efforts
Yes absolutely. Sorry for not doing that right from the beginning. I am a PhD student and researcher from the Technical University of Munich, Germany (that is why I respond to such different times), and I am currently investigating how (or if) sport teams sustainability activities influence or correlate with behavioral intention of fans with a focus on eating behaviors (as you may have noticed if you did the questionnaire). As some of you mentioned Trail Blazers and Mona Center are really doing something in this regard (but to be honest I also have the feeling that they do not promote it too much). For example, they work together with local producers and buy many food items from the local area, provide/use (partly) certified food items and do a lot in the direction of waste minimization & diversion. Blazers were therefore also used as a case study by the Green Sports Alliance and the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) because of their sustainable food program and thereby (indirectly) named one of the most sustainable food sport organizations (if you are interested in the report you can search for: green sport alliance champions of game food). And something to me: As I mentioned I come from Germany and for most people from Europe I started to play and watch soccer when I was a child. Thanks to Dirk I started to watch NBA during the 2000th and basketball became next to soccer my favorite sport. Of course back then I cheered for the Mavs and I still sympathize with them but they are not my favorite franchise (to be honest I would not consider myself a die hard fan of a specific franchise but I sympathize with the Mavs (Dirk), Blazers and Wolves - and I partly even cheer for the Kings but I do not know why - maybe because I empathize with unsuccessful teams due to my favorite soccer team ). Furthermore, in the past years my interested changed a bit and I did not just looked the games but I became interested what sport teams do next to the playing field/court not just in regard to environmental sustainability but also what they do for the community and I am also interested in economical indicators/finance of sport teams. I really think sport teams and athletes can do so much more than many of them actually do because we as fans "trust" them and (partly) follow what teams/athletes exemplify (of course it is not their first task to make us all vegetarians and I do not want to say that anyone has to change but I guess they can at least increase the awareness of the people about different topics which become more and more important). If you have any questions please feel free to ask!
Would also be happy to discuss with you about other topics about Blazers than sporting issues or my research project if you are interested in!
