Tell you what, I wouldn’t mind picking up Batum on a vet’s minimum contract for next season.

I hate the rule. Hate it even worse in college where it is called more often. I don't think a player should be able to run over the defender but when a defensive player jumps in front of the ball handler with the sole purpose of picking up the foul it ruins the game IMO.
Personally, I would like the rule changed so the defensive player has to be set a little longer.

Phoenix went from bottom feeders in the western conference to 1 win away from The NBA Finals. Kinda shows you what a good gm and coach can do for a team

    Lucky run
    Lakers: no ad
    Denver: no murray
    Clippers: no kawhi and ibaka
Suns are trash that are getting lucky to play teams who have injured players in every series

That was kind of the point of my retort. He called them a lucky team, and not good. You still have to be good to beat these teams missing a key player or two. I guess I'm just not buying on discounting what Phoenix has done this post season.

I mean, we could have had the same run. We started off against an injured team and were not good enough to take advantage of our luck.

I mean that's how a lot of playoff runs happen. Didn't the warriors have the same luck on their first chip run?

Suns were the 2nd seed in the entire league. It's not just a lucky run. And Paul has had his issues during this playoff run.

Suns are just a very good team, championship contender good. Their starting 5 is amazingly balanced.

The other part of that is if a team builds itself around a couple of older players or players with injury histories to the detriment of their depth and those teams either are fatigued or banged up by the playoffs, are those teams really great teams?

There's no luck involved with teams putting all their eggs into an old, damaged basket and the eggs falling out and breaking on the way to the championship. You just have to be good enough to beat them while overcoming your own fatigue and injuries (e.g. missing Chris Paul).

They might bring the old fashioned positions 1 through 5 back in! (Well, except for the classic Karl Malone stype PF - that one went out when the Rockets traded Otis Thorpe.)

Suns-Bucks should be interesting (albeit a nightmare for the NBA). Basically the two healthy teams!

I noticed how fast defensive players figured out where the ball might go next and got there.

Well, no shit. It must be coincidence, because we all know that most important thing for winning is "culture".

    Just some random thoughts.

Being able switch effectively at least 1-3, preferably 1-4 and keep the ball in front or bring help and rotate out of it when you do get beat is more important to playoff defense than your big being able to trap or hedge and recover.

We are seeing it across all of these playoff series and we're going to continue to see it.

Your big does need to be able to play up to touch and and late switch at times if getting hurt by the pull up 3 or 2 though, and if that doesn't work you've got to have enough two-way smart wings to go small as a counter.

We've got a lot of work to do both on the personnel and execution side to get to where we need to be.

I do trust Zach and Nurk as playoff level big defenders with scheme versatility though.
