It may be a good sign. Neil will at some point before training camp starts, have a press conference and tout his success... even if it's abject failure. The fact that he hasn't done that yet means he's not done and probably thinks he has something impressive up his sleeve. It might be the blockbuster we all want or upgrading DJ with a draft pick or two and regardless he might just say he tried and it didn't happen but then he'll say bringing in Chauncey, re-signing Norm and the bench being retooled makes him the greatest thing ever. So there's still hope until he says it's done... and there's even hope after that for an early season trade.
I like numbers, and think they can help us see some things that are not obvious with good 'ol eye test.... However, Neil needs a better 'numbers' guy!
Sad that norms interview gave more of an insight into Billups’ philosophies than his own press conference. Also loved the shots he took at Stotts.
Was so worried about losing this dude and he's all in. Loved his talk about defense and now we have a coach that will push it. If we improve our defense by 20 percent we will be right there.
nah...we got rid of a glass big man , Melo and Kanter moved on setting the stage for 2 way players and sign Zeller who has both feet so far....and we have assets..oh...then there's the coaching staff.....that I thought you'd see as a win. We drafted a young PF and got a couple 3 pt shooters on the bench..and we're probably not done
It's a really great contract for a two way player that could have his biggest year ever, if he's given the touches and shots he deserves and doesn't have to defend guys who have a size advantage on him every night.
With ball movement you wear bigger guys down...Norm talks about his transition games....if you defend on a string you can frustrate the hell out of bigger slower players...Norm has a long wingspan ...longest of all our starting guards...he has a quickness advantage and he's stillbe strong..he's going to teach Dame and CJ how it's done given a training camp and coach who wants to be a top defensive team....I'm all in on Norm
He got hung out to dry against MPJ... I know he's very tall for a SF but he also got over powered and shot over by a lot of other opponents last season. I'm not saying he'll be the worst defending 3 in the league, I just think he'd be one of the best defending 2s.
I'm sure Norm will guard twos depending on the matchups...as I said...it has to be 5 guys defending not ISO defense..he and Roco need to know how to do that effortlessly..he talked about Toronto's success with it...moving forward I'm not gauging anything this team can do by what happened after the deadline when rusty CJ and Nurk came back and Norm had to learn to play with them on the court....he wants a real training camp and it will make us a better team to have one...I'm stoked ..I'm sure we'll stagger guards as well and use length when we need it...I expect our defense to look like the Olympic team's defense under Pop..our Olympic team was pretty small
I'm not worried about the bench. I'm worried about still having cj on this team. We have norm. Cj is expendable.
It's pretty universal on all fronts that the only way you trade CJ is to get equal value in return. That doesn't look like much of a possibility at this point. Looks to me like CJ will be a Blazer next season.
he said defense wasn’t really important last season and that he can do more than just stand around and shoot.
He has high praise for Stotts and said he inherited an elite offensive team that needed to improve defensively to get to the next level...which coincidentally is exactly what Stotts said all year...Pop praised Terry Stotts as well...Stotts knew 29th ranked defense wasn't going to make a run in the post season..(I think we got closer to 17th ranked after Norm and Nurk came on) ..I think Chauncey has one big difference maker on his staff...Roy Rogers..this guy is more passionate about the process than any of our old assistant coaches at least vocally in public...I'm loving RR on the staff...he also emphasized ball movement and not allowing Dame and CJ to dominate the scoring..to spread it out...that's actually holding Dame and CJ accountable...
