I'd rather keep nurk and have Wiseman learn for another year, personally. Unless you did mean this and I apologize lol.
They get Simmons. That's the cost apparently. I already said take one of Moody or Kuminga out of the deal
That's not the cost if Golden State deals directly with Philly. By adding Portland to the deal, you're making the deal even worse for Golden State. I don't think there would be a three-way deal and, honestly, I don't think I've heard any rumors that Morey is even interested in CJ. Philly is hoping (futilely, IMO) that Lillard will come available--that's why Portland is even in the conversation.
Sounds good to me compared to all the ones where we get fucked and golden state gets another shot at the championship.
Naw the core deal has always been CJ for Simmons. Dame stuff is a Philadelphia pipe dream that will end any day now. They don't have a choice and CJ is easily the best fit of available options on Embiid’s timeline unless they are ready to blow it up and start over. Everyone's justified hatred of Olshey and CJ has given them a warped sense of things. Simmons is worth far more than CJ in a vacuum, but with fit next to Embiid, availability, and ticking time bomb urgency, it’s gonna be CJ plus young guys and picks. Morey is just holding out for the best possible deal. If Siakam is off the table I believe CJ is easily the best potential that the Sixers can get. There is some concern that Olshey is clinically insane and overvalues CJ. That is something that concerns me. Because if there is a deal for CJ plus picks and a young guy for Simmons you do it right fucking now.
The cost is more if they deal directly with PHI. We're doing them a favor. We are sending picks to PHI to offset that cost Fine... PHI GETS: CJ McCollum Cj Elleby One of Kuminga or Moody 2 future 1sts (from Por) 2 future swaps (from GSW) GSW Gets: Ben Simmons Derrick Jones Jr Tyrese Maxey Future 2nd POR Gets: Draymond Green James Wiseman Seth Curry
For Portland fans, sure. Again, I've heard nothing to suggest Morey has any interest in CJ. I definitely think Morey holds onto Simmons rather than agree to getting a player he doesn't value much. The cost is much higher in your proposed deal. You're basically taking the deal Morey offered Golden State, that a lot of people (not just Golden State) laughed off as absurd, and replaced Wiggins with Green, a much more valuable player--removing Moody or Kuminga doesn't really make up for that. If Portland gives up Green, they're not really giving up much more than that. I don't think Philadelphia considers CJ worth Simmons, nor do I think Golden State considers CJ to be worth Green. So you're basically hoping Golden State makes up the difference to get a much more valuable player to...Portland. That doesn't make sense.
Agree. I think Morey just looks if someone is ready to make a dumb trade. Nevertheless, I am quite unsure in how far Simmons is seen as a really valuable player in Philly. Still have the feeling that they will trade him if he and Embiid can not overcome their differences during the season (I think Morey will do something in this case and also has to consider CJ - but I also doubt that a one-for-one trade will happen as Simmons standing is much higher/better).
Yeah, Simmons is a tough player to build around, for all his tremendous talent. You pretty much need 3-4 shooters around him (preferably four) and for Simmons to be the main ball-handler. Funny enough, while I don't think Portland should trade Lillard for him, I actually think Simmons fits reasonably well alongside CJ. CJ is also a tough fit, since he doesn't have the size to defend any position but point guard but he's not someone you want to play the actual point guard position full-time. Simmons allows CJ to defend the point guard position while not actually playing point guard (since Simmons would effectively do that). So it's funny to me that, on this forum, they're being discussed as a trade for each other.
That's pretty much the way I see it, except that if Dame really wants out, I might actually do the deal. Simmons is likely to be a problem in terms of not wanting to be in Portland, but he's under contract for the next 4 seasons and he needs to do some image restoration. I think that with CJ, Norm, and RoCo there's plenty of outside shooting available. Nurk I'm not so sure about as a fit, but presumably that could be handled through a trade if need be. If Philly threw in enough other assets, it would be a pretty solid core to build around.
Neither-Nothing-Nada lets close this thread and get real! Neil the "no-deal" Olshey will do fukkin nothin except the typical dumpster dive/retread moves he has already done. Get ready for another season of RE-RUNS
No deal?? He traded for Powell less than 6 months ago and they re-signed him on a reasonable deal. Last year, he re-signed Hood and Melo and trades for Covington and Kanter. Not exactly dumpster diving.
I actually don't think that Simmons needs the ball in his hands to be extremely effective. Using him as a post up player. A slasher off the ball and a rim runner off the PnR seems like it would be extremely effective to get him going as a really high level scorer at the rim. Obviously he can run an offense initiating it or being a secondary play maker. If we did get him for Dame I wouldn't want to keep our older players and instead start a rebuild around Simmons as a star. Hopefully in the package for Dame we could get both Thybulle and Shake coming back because any picks from Philly would be like high second rounders. I just posted this in another thread but if we had to trade Dame, I'd rather see if we could get Ingram, Hayes and picks from NOLA. NOLA has tons of picks so we could likely get three from them. Then with Dame off the board and us building young we could get Simmons for CJ, RoCo and a couple of the picks that came back from NOLA. Nurk would need traded because of his lack of fit with Simmons and because he'd want to be traded and we'd get good value for him as well. Norm wouldn't be traded immediately but we could feature him until we could trade him and get back some nice young pieces for him too. Ant, Nas, DJJ, Ingram, Simmons, Hayes and whatever we got from Nurk and Norm would be a really great young core that would be a huge youth movement but probably would leave close to as competitive initially as we've been recently with huge potential for growth and picks we could package together to move up for a player or players we like to add to that core.
