This. Not only will it allow him to exert more energy on defense, but with the right offensive scheme, the shots he does take should not be nearly as contested as we have seen in the past few years, allowing his shot percentage and efficiency rating to improve.

Im looking forward to this next season!

When your starting backcourt, including the best player on the team, refuses to play defense, it limits what a coach can do.

That’s the coaches fault. Doesn’t happen under a coach who values it.

Let’s see if Billups does any better. I’ll take bets right now that he won’t bench Lillard for not playing defense.

He’s not gonna allow him to not play defense. But Dame will buy in, he’s not gonna challenge Billups. Terry just never gave a shit.

might be a bit of a chicken and the egg thing

maybe the key to Dame not working so hard on offense is the rest of the team proving to dame he doesn't have to work so had on offense

I mean, how many times each season have the Blazers lost leads and stalled on offense at the top of the 2nd & 4th Q's when Dame sits? That happens way too much

Yeah or when Dame collapses the defense, makes a pass, and his teammates throw up bricks.

If the offense completely rely on Dame I guess it is okay that he focuses on offense and plays less defense.
The coach rather has to look for ways that the we stay competitive if Dame sits and do not blow our lead or lose ground or if he wants him to put more effort in his defense game look for new ways to score to give Dame the opportunity share responsibilities on the offense.

That tends to happen when you don't have a backup PG.

Taking glue from CJ's hands should solve the problem. Dame will be fine.

Anyone else both really excited for the year to start but also really cautiously optimistic?

Absolutely. Really looking forward to the first games and hope for a good start (not just wins but also too see some good games from our side). And I am still open for some trades if some guys which can improve us are available for a fair price.

thats what I like about the billups hire. Who’s gonna step to him? Not even Dame has his resume. He commands respect, but he still comes off as the type that would rather earn it than to throw his weight around (ie Kidd.)

Right now all I have is a gut feeling, but it’s telling me he’s gonna be a great great coach.

Perfect combination of Humility and Confidence and clout. His resume as a player speaks for itself.
