I think there's pretty much a consensus that it's a good move, but not enough to make us a contender.

I mean, can anyone disagree with that?

Seems like a good trade to me. A solid rotational role player that is not a sieve on defense, we needed plenty of those types last year. I am fine too with trading a draft pick for hin. Why even be upset about it, unless you are a Minnesota Timberwolves fan in disguise.

me. We stay fully healthy. Jokic goes down. Lakers need a wheel chair. Etc etc

I think if everything pans out( not a good percentage of that happening, but that kinda goes for all teams) we are a top for in the west. With a bit of luck during the season we could be top two to three.

We'll see, none of us really know how good or bad this team will be under a new coach, few new players and hopefully fewer injuries this year. If Naz or Simons pop it could be a very interesting year.
Its obvious Dame & CJ will not be going iso as much. I see much more ball movement this year and expect our D to improve a good bit.

The way I look at it, the team needs to build a contender during dame's peak and this is a step in the right direction (they are closer than before). If they blow it up, they will get plenty of picks from trades, so giving up a FRP is not important. Good move.

Good trade imo. we're still very small though - id love to see another more traditional big in the mix at C/PF - maybe a vet to help things in the locker room too

When Dame, CJ and Powell represent nearly 2/3 of your entire season salary, what options do you have? Had we not offered them they would be playing elsewhere and we'd be out of the playoffs looking in each year. I don't begrudge Olshey for paying them what they're worth, but to suggest Dame and the fanbase aren't happy and still expect major changes with the protected players we have is irrational. Dame dictates who stays and goes and don't think he doesn't have a say. I guess my point is what choice does NO have? The Lakers faced similar decisions when they signed Kobe to his supermax - his last 4-5 years the Lakers were gawd-awful and he took up to 40% of their salary at the time.

It's a no-win situation when you have a mega star and pay him as such. I'm not blaming Dame as he's earned every dollar he's made in Portland, but to think major moves are required while the said mega star protects his friends who represent 2/3 of the salary and playing time is impossible.

the goal isn’t to keep dame, the goal is to win. That’s what Dame has in mind, not making fantasy trades that look sexy on paper. We could trade CJ for Simmons but if we don’t win, Dame will still bounce, and probably even quicker since his best friend is no longer here.

We’re a lot better today than yesterday. We’ll see how it goes with Billups and reassess at the deadline. But keep crying.

This thread is about the Nance trade, not about egos. Keep the insults and personal shit out. Stay on topic.

This was a very good trade for the Blazers..we got better without getting rid of a rotation player

I think in ideal world, we would move CJ for that 2nd star next to Dame. But that just isn't happening. And, we've beaten those talks to death, there's not a ton of reason for other teams to make those moves.
But I still think any roster with Dame leading the way could be a contender. Not in a clear cut favorites out of the gate sort of way, but as has been discussed on here a bunch, in the way that Dirk got his ring. Dallas never found that 2nd star, they kept on shuffling pieces around the edges until they found just the right mix. You throw in a hot streak and some luck and there you go.
Again, I want the HR, but shuffling the right pieces(as well as a new coach!) could still do the trick, IMO. I'm probably naive in that thinking, but feels like if we're not improving #2 on the roster, getting more out of 3-8 can still get us over the top.

You can basically plug Ed into the Kanter role if we have injuries. I like that as an insurance option.

This trade sucks. I wanted LeBron. We’ll never win a championship in this market. Olshey has no vision. Nance is too short……am I doing this right…..??
