https://www.reverbnation.com/swilnation/song/32844809-were-so-high-mix-1?source=artistMusic @Tyrant of Ants And anyone else who might be interested. Just got done mixing down the first song on the new album as a test run before we finish off the rest of the songs. Thought Id load it up to get any potential feedback from some other ears to get some thoughts before I move forward. Comments and critiques welcome, though mostly looking for thoughts on the production and mixing, not so much the songwriting. Though I wrote and recorded everything myself with my drummer. This was recorded in my studio(OB Studios), but mixed down by Kevin Hahn @ Opal Studios(if anyone is interested). Anyhow, enjoy, or not. Thanks for reading and listening in advance.
No! dammit you listened to the wrong song. Lol. Everything else is older shitty recordings. Id delete but they have history rankings. Lol.
I thought the mix was good...had a Men at work vibe...nice hook...good middle 8....I loved the compressed fuzzed tone of the guitar break and thought if anything that part could've been bumped up a bit in volume...good to see you working on the record OB....I'm writing two songs these days that I'm working through myself with a new Boss RC5 looper I'm learning to use...still have a learning curve but it's fun...but seriously dude...MORE COWBELL!!!
thanks. Simple goofy pop song. Most else is more complex but this is just right for a quick single release. cowbell is on another song. Along with chimes and wood block!
My simple Beatlesque pop songs are the ones my grandson will bob his head and dance to...I like complicated ideas as well but crafting a 3 minute pop song is good fun....it also really has appeal to non musicians...you give them a place in the tune
true. Ive already gotten much better feed back on this compared to most of my more serious songs. Wait for the next one. Its called No Polidiques! Lol
When I get in songwriting mode I put on Harry Nilson greatest hits and see how many styles of music that dude recorded...it gives me perspective to not be afraid to step outside my comfort zone and stretch...guy was a genius...I listen to Neil Finn's writing as well for inspiration...Crowded House is a brilliant pop band they just released a new record in New Zealand...I follow Neil's youtube channel
beleive it or not this was a harder song to wrote than some of the more complex stuff im also writing. Why? Because its easy to want to add more. Hard to just keep it simple. Kiss had it right. Keep it simple stupid. but that goes against the principle of advancing skills. The more skills advance the more we want to show them off! Lol.
I think it's a best of both worlds...you listen to CSNY and Graham Nash wrote almost children songs that were hits like Our House and Stills wrote epic pieces like 49 reasons....Crosby wrote Deja Vu....Young wrote Helpless....all really different genres of music but collectively, brilliant
Saw them live at arlene schnitzer half a dozen years ago or so. Man crosby is full of himself. Lol. But the ovation stills got? He is the glue to that band.
Stills is my guy...Crosby is a known asshole...my son worked on his house in Santa Barbara and told me he was walking road rage..he sure wrote some beautiful songs though
yeah it was funny. Every song they played that he wrote he hsd to give a back story. But no one else's songs really got any. He also sorta looks like a younger ron jeremy these days.
On the flip side of your record, put "The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill." They'll sell like hotcakes.
My neighbor is David Crosby’s doppelgänger…….a dead ringer, but a far, far nicer person. Most of the neighborhood refers to him as “David”, even though his name is Joe. He says he can’t go to Vegas without getting regularly asked for his photograph. He’s even been abused for refusing to sign, with people calling him “just another arrogant celebrity”, and that they now understand why he has such a rep for being an asshole. Poor Joe, he can’t even gamble in peace……
Oddly enough, in the midst of yesterday’s dick measuring contest I was so very tempted to post the lyrics from “You’re Breaking My Heart”………
Lol. Is it possible your buddy helped inflate the rumors of him David being an ass? That would be funny in a sadistic way. Lol.
You have to consider that the only band member who will talk to Crosby at all now is Stills...he's burned that bridge...Crosby has been very very productive writing songs with his son Raymond since the band broke up and it's really good work...like Miles Davis...an asshole who is still a genius musician...in Crosby's case lyricist...I probably play guitar better than he does but he's really great at harmony and open tuning voicings...the guy rarely ever plays a major chord.
