@ABM s thread a out burgers made me think of pizza. Having managed and eaten at most of them across the country, i feel ive got a good inside track on what makes a good pizza. Also im italian so theres that! so whats your favorite chain and favorite individual? pietros and Shakeys were always my couple of favorites. Crispy corn meal crusts. As far as individual places, there arent a ton but there was a really good one in port jervis ny when i lived there but cant remember thier name. It was a last name name “Piazanos”, or something like that. i used to get thier pizza on the regular. Also. If anyone has lived on both coasts, pizzas are way different. Of course you always have your dominos and pizza hits but out east most places sell pizza by the slice and its all ny style thin aNd big and cheesey. Not much of that out here at all. So whats your favorite slice of pie coming from?
Sour cherry from Loretta Jean’s. Best pie place in town (Though I’m sure Lanny will dispute this). They do a lot of different kinds of pies and all are good. I’m not a crust guy but hers is the best, if for no other reason than she uses butter instead of shortening. She also does other amazing baked goods. Great place.
Sure enough, UCD either didn't read the OP or he just decided to takes things in a completely different direction! C'mon, FAMS!
I make terrific pie. Come to Thanksgiving. Always some variety of apple pie, since conveniently that's when my Granny Smiths are ripe. Chocolate pecan. Peach. Lemon meringue.
Okay, okay, Nostrana/Oven & Shaker. Or Ken’s. Or Apizza Scholls. Or Assembly Brewing. And when it comes to chains, Abby’s. But I still like sour cherry pie dammit!
Chains, I like Wolfgang Puck. Individual, this spot in Chicago called Bonci Pizza. It's Roman style Pizza, but with creative and high end toppings. The Rome location was on Anthony Bourdain, and I went there but I preferred the Chicago location. I tend to like Italian Pizza (Neopolitan) versus American style. I like Chicago and Detroit style versus New York/Connecticut style.
i was gonna give it ten posts before someone went.. below the belt. Leave it to UCD to be the first post. LOL!
Lemon meringue is my favorite. I also love a good black berry cobbler with vanilla bean Tillamook ice cream
I'm all about a classic apple pie ala mode. My aunt made an awesome version with apples out of their orchard out in Wilsonville with rasins and cinnamon.
