You got Sources? Wouldn't be happy with giving up RoCo. A starting lineup of : Dame, Norm, RoCo, Simmons, & Nurk is awesome. We need Nance to provide extra strength off the bench. With no CJ, the benches ability to score will go down. The bench has to be off the chain defensively.

I expect Morey to do this I'd he cant find a trade he likes.

They aren't a contender when Simmons sits out

But they aren't a contender with a shitty Simmons trade.

Morey is title or bust. He isn't going to sacrifice title chances to avoid drama.

I'm sure this is preferable, but he's up against Rich Paul who is also not going to cave. It might get ugly.

And THAT is why I'm confident Simmons is traded and likely to a contender. Since Morey can't get Siakam or a real package out of Toronto and he won't want Simmons in the East, that leaves us.

Why a contender? Simmons has said he'd be happy anywhere, and he's buddies with half the Minnesota team, which, coincidentally, is the team that's most keen to get him.

We have no idea what teams are actually keen to get him because only shit shows let that info get out there, everyone else plays it cool. We do know that the rumor is that the Wolves want to get him without giving up Towns, Russell or Edwards... so I don't know just how keen they are on really getting him. If you can take any rumor seriously including them wanting him.

Rich Paul wants his clients upwardly mobile and that means contender. Especially for a client of Simmons caliber. If Simmons is flexible, all the better for Paul who will be driving the negotiations.

it's windhorst's MO. But there's more insight from him in the actual podcast. (says Minny doesn't have what it takes). And that it could potentially end up being a 3 team trade where a star level player goes to Philly and younger pieces (from Minny) go to the 3rd team.

anyways, the stuff out in public is Minny and CLE being primarily interested. Spurs tangentially. Really nothing from POR outside of speculation.

    my $ is on Indy.

I think it’s probably a bad sign that whenever I see Simmons in the headline as the top thread I fear that we’ve traded for him.

I’ve never been so confused about a player. If he even *looks* at the rim the 76ers have a championship. Insane.

OK i just listened to the pod (around the 25 min mark)

Q: Isn't CJ for Simmons the most logical outcome?
A: I'm not sure Portland makes that trade. Does Portland even want Ben Simmons? Obviously they're a poor defensive team and make a case that trading for a great defensive player makes sense on paper, but I'm not sure they want Ben Simmons. If they come to the decision that they want to trade CJ, they may be able to do something that makes more sense for their roster.

for fucks sake, Neil. How is it that he is so oblivious to the idea that a Dame-Simmons pairing is >>>>> Dame-CJ pairing? Could there be any better synergistic pairing?

I think Neil is legitimately the most stubborn GM I have ever seen on this team. Why do we keep getting these "let the cake bake" morons in our front office?

Everyone settle down. DroppinDimes said Simmons will be a Blazer by tonight. So just sit back and relax.

I'm largely OK with retaining CJ, but i have at least some semblance of common sense in realizing that CJ is possibly our best tradeable piece with the Powell acquisition, and our weakest link on defense. Whether you trade for Simmons is another matter of discussion (in my mind, it's about as obvious as can be), but to be so reluctant to moving CJ at all.... doesn't make much sense to me. And this is a message we have heard consistently this summer (from Jake Fischer to Windy, et al): Neil will not trade CJ.

    nothing has changed

Olshey is ego-blinded loyal to his vision of CJ, and that vision says that CJ is the elite 2nd star that Portland needs, even though there are 6 years of proof that's not anywhere close to true

over four years ago, we found out that Olshey was holding CJ untouchable in a PG13 trade. I'm convinced CJ has remained untouchable when Butler, Kawhi, and Harden were available. There's really nothing, except wishful thinking, indicating CJ is suddenly touchable in a Simmons trade

Then Olshey should not be fired, but executed. We can have his head on a Pike outside the Moda Center as a warning to future GM’s to make the fucking trade.

I cant wait until Olshey is fired. If he fucks up this last best chance to save the franchise he should be fired and hopefully blacklisted from the NBA. What utter trash.
