I understand the point you are trying to make, but in the Simmons case you are conflating on-court and off court concerns. I'm sure I am not the only one who could live with his questionable shooting, but balk at his apparent immaturity and attitude.

What do you mean by "immaturity and attitude"? I've never seen one report of him being a problematic teammate. He hasn't even said anything publicly about the current situation. I might be missing something, so please point out an example of his lack of maturity and bad attitude if you have any.

BTW, in that 5 game series this past season vs Washington, Simmons averaged:

14.8 pts, 10.2 rebs, and 9.2 asts on 64% FG in 32 mpg. Shot horribly from the line, but the counting stats are impressive.

    Often forgotten.

I was referring to Mike Richmond and the roster being basically set and we are the ones not wanting to trade CJ for Simmons. If we’re not going to trade Cj for him and def not trading Dame then what is there to talk about?

The season starts soon so once training camp starts we will see where Simmons is.

The Neil bashing and crying Neil is this and that for not trading CJ.

    1. mike richman is hardly a good source. I don't think he even has any media credentials anymore.
    2. It's the dog days of summer. What else would you like to talk about?

I'm not going to argue the exact percentages, but it is no where near "exclusive".

If Doc's rather mild criticisms caused a meltdown, why would you expect him to take directions from a rookie head coach? This kid has Butler 2.0 written all over him, and I have no desire to see our team left as road kill in that sort of multiseason soap opera!

Now, if Philly paniced and sold at a discount - that would be different. IMHO, that won't be happening. Eventually, some team will panic and make a fat offer.

Trading for a player and projecting what players will accomplish in the future is not perfect nor is it a 100% guarantee of an outcome.

Its possible to be perfectly logical and reasonable in a believe its better for the Blazers to keep CJ than trade him for Simmons.

You have your opinion that its better to trade for Ben, others can have a different opinion that its better to keep CJ. If you only want to see your opinion maybe you should only have discussions with yourself.

What the hell do you call his meltdown over some fairly minor (and 100% accurate) criticism? You can't possibly see the way he is handling this as mature and professional?

Of course, there have been plenty of articles about his attitude issues - but the pro-Simmons side of the argument has declared any negative news about the kid to be false, so no point in digging them up and quoting them.

Can you imagine if Portland had a player averaging almost a triple-double in the Playoffs with that kind of D on the other side of the ball? I'll take that any day and ask that the coaching figure out one guy that can't shoot but can score into the offense.

Not true in the least from what I've seen. I don't know of anyone denying his shooting deficiencies. I do know of a LOT of people who think Dame (best leader in the NBA, right?) and his influence on that kind of talent is worth the risk given the multitude of other things he does...VERY well.

trying to figure out what's wrong with any of this. Why is it Simmons' responsibility to maintain trade value when Morey has been dangling him in offers for a year? Simmons has to come out and publicly refute Stephen A's slander? Not everyone has twitter fingers like Dame.

Hell, you'd think Scott Brooks would welcome that on his team after struggling to do anything against him in the playoffs just months ago.

If it's the fact that he's a Klutch client that you don't like then I get that but Ben himself hasn't been a part of this stuff. He did reportedly meet with the team and at that point he said he wanted out. Even if he said he wouldn't do anything to recoup trade value, I just don't see that being enough to question his character after four seasons where no one heard a peep about him being a bad guy or immature or having a bad attitude.

The guy had a bad series, his coach and teammate didn't exactly have his back, the team tried to trade him for the second consecutive off season but couldn't get what they wanted for him, so he demanded a trade and threatened to sit out camp. If you don't like that enough to dismiss his talent, skills and upside then we don't see eye to eye. Not a big deal. If you want to start questioning his character because of those things I think you're going a little too far but again that's your prerogative.
