Lawrence, No. 4 Clemson rout No. 2 Notre Dame for ACC title

After a heartbreaking 47-40 double-overtime loss to Notre Dame last month, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney assured his players in the locker room that there would be no trophy handed out that night.

There would, however, be one up for grabs when they got to Charlotte for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game.

The Tigers haven't blinked since, staying focused on their goal. On Saturday they collected the hardware — again.

Trevor Lawrence had 412 yards of offense and three touchdowns, Travis Etienne ran for 124 yards and a score and No. 4 Clemson dominated No. 2 Notre Dame 34-10 on Saturday to win its sixth straight ACC title.

Virginia Tech holds off Howell, No. 10 North Carolina 17-10

    — Virginia Tech didn't appear to get much consideration when the experts tabbed No. 10 North Carolina and No. 14 Miami as the teams to beat in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division.

    They will now.

Braxton Burmeister ran for a touchdown and threw for another and Virginia Tech made Sam Howell look pedestrian in a 17-10 victory over North Carolina on Friday night in the opener for both teams.

    SCSU finds Tigers tough

Earlier this week, SC State head coach Buddy Pough recalled how a few of his former players showed up on professional scout's radars after playing against high-profile opponents.

"When scouts turn on film, this will be the first game they watch," Pough said at his press conference Monday. "They want to see how you performed against a Power Five team."

Bulldog seniors Will Vereen and Decobie Durant each provided highlights Saturday in a 49-3 loss to sixth-ranked Clemson Saturday at Memorial Stadium

Notre Dame's Coan throws winning TD after dislocating finger

Jack Coan has played in only two games for No. 8 Notre Dame, yet he already has a place in Fighting Irish lore by leading them to a come-from-behind 32-29 victory over Toledo on Saturday despite dislocating a finger.

Howell figures in 5 TDs, No. 24 Tar Heels rout Georgia State

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- — Sam Howell's reputation has largely been built on what he does throwing the football for No. 24 North Carolina.

His footwork carrying the ball drew most of the attention Saturday night.

Howell scored on two rushes to go with three touchdown throws as the Tar Heels beat Georgia State 59-17, shaking off the disappointment of an opening-game defeat.

No. 22 Miami escapes Appalachian State test, 25-23

A cat survived a scare. So did the Miami Hurricanes.

D'Eriq King threw for 200 yards and rushed for 67 more, freshman Andy Borregales kicked a go-ahead 43-yard field goal with 2:04 remaining and No. 22 Miami rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Appalachian State 25-23 on Saturday night.
