That was tough trying to watch both games.

Mario getting some mixed reviews on the way he responded to the penalty at the end of the half.

    Dude went ballistic!

Hutson got whistled for a similar penalty last season, so there was some history there. And, it should be noted that Hutson played several snaps in the second half last night. I suspect that MC had a follow-up conversation with Hutson at half-time that smoothed things over a bit. I'd also suspect that Hutson never showboats like that again

I'd imagine that Mario going ballistic was steam venting about the Duck performance last night. The Ducks weren't ready to compete in the trenches, on either side of the ball, and that is just about guaranteed to be the quickest way to slip burr's under Cristobal's saddle. He also spent time coaching under Saban and Saban is pretty notorious for going off on players and assistant coaches who piss him off. Of course, Saban has won 6 national championships so it's pretty damn hard to slam his coaching style

as a Duck fan, I'll say this:

I'm really impressed with the job Jonathan Smith has done. He's turned recruiting around and has the Beavers on the upswing. And he recognizes the value of zigging when other are zagging. That two-TE offense is effective because it's unusual and defenses have a tough time preparing for it in a week. That 'you-haven't-seen-this-before' advantage can be huge, and his team has the physicality to complement that kind of controlled offense. He's catching lightning in a bottle kind of like how Chip did at Oregon and Harbaugh did at Stanford

and, it's always nice to see USC get humiliated.

but get ready for it Beaver fans: if OSU keeps winning games, then Smith's name will come up whenever there's a major HC opening, in college or the pros

That can happen anywhere. See Chip Kelly.

Good for him if he gets a better opportunity and wants to take it.

    Butttttttttttttt

This is his alma mater, he gets to be king here, and would feel pride bringing us out of the shit Andersen had us in. That could keep him here as long as we increase his pay some. Who knows.

Wonder how close the Beavs will be to cracking the top 25. The way they've performed since installing Nolan at QB, they absolutely deserve consideration.

Both games ended up even more lopsided.
However, the Trojans are better than the Wildcats and the Ducks were at home while the Beavers were on the road. I'd say the Beavers put on the better showing.

    Sly,
The Ducks did not play ASU. They played Arizona.
God it feels good catching you make a mistake. I get to thump my chest. Ouch, that hurt. Note to self: Next time don't use hammer.

I would say both the Beavs and Fresno State have earned top 25 rankings.

In the past when we were highly ranked I always thought we had a good chance against Bama, but this year I'm not so sure. Hopefully they can keep winning and get people healthy.

Beavers have a very favorable schedule over the next 6 weeks. UW, WSU, Utah (at home, after a bye week), Cal, and CU. They could (should?) legitimately win all those games. Can you imagine OSU being 8-1 in November?

...& after the bluster clears the Ducks hold their spot as the #3 team in the nation in the all important early season rankings. They'll probably lose a game or two this year as they look good not great and it sure didn't set the heart aflutter seeing Kavon limping again, but good grief with the over the top fretting among some in the fanbase. Theres no prize for being the first to wet one's pants. Pretty sure that every team in the Pac 12 would happily trade records with UO

And look at OK, skin of their teeth, and a bunch of ranked teams got beat.

Coaches moved Ducks up to 3 in front of Sooners.
