Actually this is simply amazing that you love basketball enough to post here for years and you aren't taking ANYTHING from this preseason. Good or Bad!
Sure, the coaches should. Am I a coach. Preseason wins and loses mean nothing, same as the scoring differential. I'm excited for opening night, as I would be if they were undefeated. Didn't even watch the full games since dishnetwork canceled RSN. Caught the highlights afterward. Noticed some things both good and bad, but am not going to base an opinion on them.
I love Dame but you guys worry too much about how he "feels". If we miss the playoffs without any major injuries, it just might be because Dame did not play well enough to justify his soon-to-be 45 million per year contract. I would prefer he retires as a Blazer, but sure if he is unhappy in that scenario then yeah trade him. But not just because we feel bad for him.
I haven't posted my prediction yet. Was actually thinking about not doing it this year so I can just fling shit from the sidelines. Still have a couple days though so who knows.
I'd tell you what I think should do, but I've had posts deleted and edited for that recently. I watched the games afterwards, just not live. Please tell me more about how I should be a fan though.
Oh I'm not telling you how to be a fan. Sorry if I upset you. You said you hadn't formed any opinions because you hadn't watch the games. You can DM me what you think I should do though if you want.
If we're headed in a direction that looks like we'll be in the play-ins (meaning we're seventh through tenth place in the West) by mid-season we need to make big changes to the roster before the deadline because the roster wouldn't be functioning around Dame in Chauncey's system. If we don't do that and we miss the playoffs either by being eleventh or lower or losing in the play-in tourney then Dame will ask out, Olshey should be fired and we should bring in a new GM to blow up the roster. Blowing up the roster could look like moving CJ and Dame for the best players possible that actually complement each other and try to use the players we get for them with Norm and Larry to have a contending team next season. More likely it means a youth movement in which we target teams with draft picks, young players and cap room. We trade Dame for a haul, we get what we can for CJ, Norm and Larry (I would let RoCo and Nurk walk). Then we use the picks, young players and cap space to build a new very young squad with.
Not upset at all. I said I wasn't forming an opinion on what I saw in the preseason. Didn't watch the FULL game live, but you can assume whatever you want. I think you can read in between the lines.
Things were already tenuous this off-season. The thought of leaving, the possibility, has been in Dames mind. He decided to stay for now. He says he's all in this season. Let's not take that for granted. Enjoy the time he is still here.
If we learn in the months ahead we can't contend as is, and we can't bring a star to contend with Dame, I'm fine trading Dame for a big haul. If that happens there doesn't need to be a rush to trade CJ. We obviously would be rebuilding and should consider all offers for vets. But if we aren't getting good CJ offers, I'm fine letting him do a MeJ season, up his trade value, then flip him later. In a scenario where we trade Dame keeping CJ/Nurk/Roco/Powell/etc until it makes the most sense to trade them is best. That could mean trading them within days of Dame, but it may not.
We miss the playoffs, the team will be put in "for sale" mode. Anyone with value will be traded for future draft picks, young players on cheap contracts and expiring contracts in order to sell, then move the team.
I figure Dame can carry this squad to the 8th seed on his own. If the Blazers don’t make it, it means Dame is either traded or dead. So, yeah, he’s gone in that event.
