Someone check Terry’s first year preseason record. If it’s better than Chauncey’s we’ve hired the wrong coach
I don't think we can make any judgments right now except that the team has not picked up the new offense or defense at this point. The ball movement and player movement aren't right on the offensive end. The defensive rotations that are essential in this scheme aren't happening fast enough. We'll see if our guys start to pick this stuff up and if it can be effective if they do. A lot of things are up in the air.
it hasn't looked to me like the Blazers took the pre-season seriously. If they have and this is the result, those first 21 games are scary as hell
The elephant in the room. If we had dumped Stotts 4 or 5 years ago, we might have slipped a little then - but we would be better off today. This team had gone as far as it could under Stotts and had hit that ceiling years ago. Sadly, our new coach is not only fighting years of inertia, he has to deal with a GM who has warped ideas about roster construction and cap management. I am beginning to wonder if Billups was brought in as a designated scapegoat.
The team needs an identity and swagger....when we fired Stotts we lost alot of offensive swagger...Dame is no longer the floor coach he was with Terry....I give them 20 or 30 games as constructed to see if this is going to click or not...pretty anemic preseason after being hyped about Chauncey...I've realized he's a rookie coach and doesn't have much rope to turn us into a two way team. I think he'll get it right but in the meantime fans are going to see some butt ugly basketball
it will take a bit for sure but once they get Nance, Simons, Naz & Zel back and gain some continuity their bench will be improved and the team will gel to some degree. Im thinking after 6/7 games and going 500 they will start rolling some.
I never said Stotts was solely at fault. I was thought it was a group effort. Too many people try to define the Stotts/Olshey failings as an either/or situation.
Billups' answer to @THE HCP : “Here’s the thing … let’s think about it,” Billups said. “I could have taken this job and just kept everything the same and said ‘All right, let’s be a little bit better defensively.’ But they (the players) want more. I want more. You can’t keep everything the same and expect different results. So, I could have done that. ‘We are going to run everything y’all used to run.’ Great offense, boom, bam. Well, there’s a ceiling on that, in my opinion. Not only in my opinion, we’ve seen it play out.”
