The Blazers need to score more 3 point field goals (swish3s) than the opponent to win games this year, as this game 1 clearly showed us. NBA teams can be expected to increase swish3 FGAs this year, with the Warriors trying 69 of them in the preseason against us. Blazers will need to average at least 18 made swish3s per game, In Game 1 Oct 20 vs Sac Kings, Blazers lost, scoring 12 of 35 vs Sac 17 of 41. That gave Sac a 15 point margin and contributed to the 121 to 124 loss. To win, we need to account for and improve swish3 shooting. And we need to play tight defense to prevent 8 of 9 swish3 (2nd half) shooting by Barnes! CJ led scoring 6 of 11, RoCo scored 2 of 7, Nurk and Nas each scored 1 of 1, Simons scored 1 of 2, Norm scored 1 of 3. Larry was 0 of 1 and Dame was 0 of 9. This was an off game for Dame. Let's hope we do not see another one like that! Blazers allowed 38 Sac points scored in each of the 2nd and 3rd Q, including several poorly defended layups and swish3s. The defense must progress and can certainly be more active and relentless. Swish3 scoring by CJ, Nurk, and Nas deserves acknowledgement. Let it continue! Practice hard, learn from the weak points, gain proficiency, and bring intensity to the Suns game (Sat) and win it, Blazers!
Dont need to create more. Just make more. Dame hits one of his, its OT. Two and we would have won the game.
i think thats exactly how it works. How do you think it works? our best player had one of his worst games ever. I dont expect that to be a trend. If he plays average without even needing Dame time, we still win.
You’re saying that if Lillard had made just two threes, we would have won, but that doesn’t account for the natural ebb and flow of the game. No one knows how Sacramento would have reacted if Lillard had made one three or even all of his threes. They might have played a different style of game, or played even harder, or done something to limit our offense in other ways. All kinds of things can happen during a game, and none of them are knowable after the fact.
if he made that last three, no time for reaction. Were in overtime. That's a knowable fact. 2-9 vs 0-9 i doubt much change would have happened. 7-9? Sure.
You were. You specifically said it doesn't work like that? I mean i get your glow of game. And that would be legit to me if we are talking about dame going 3-4 early on. But he was 0-7 with the last two coming in the fourth. He makes those two, we win.
The Blazers won the swish3 contest Oct 23 over the Suns with 21 of 50 vs the Suns 9 of 28 in the 134-105 blowout win. This was much more like the play level that we wanted, a good game for CJ, good bench support, better ball movement, better and more consistent defense, and less turnovers! CJ led scoring 6 of 11 (again!), Simons scored 4 of 8, Larry scored 2 of 2, Norm, Roco, and Ben each scored 2 of 4, Dame scored 2 of 7, and Nas scored 1 of 4. All swish3s were missed by Gregg, 3, Nurk, 2, and Elleby, 1. Using swish3 shooting of 42% is a winning offensive strategy, and justifies the 53% of FG taken as swish3 attempts. While 18 scored swish3s may be enough to win most games, 20 is even better! Go Blazers! Beat the LA Clippers!
The Blazers lost the swish3 contest Oct 25 to the Clippers 8 of 37 to the Clippers 14 of 39.in the 86-116 blowout loss. This was a game of terrible sloppy play with 30 turnovers! and a lot of bricks. This was an off game for Dame, Nurk, Roco, and Larry. This game provides for enough video of how not to pass, put the ball in from under the basket, and play defense for a whole season of eliminating bad habits. CJ led scoring 4 of 11, Nas scored 2 of 4, Larry scored 1 of 3, and Simons scored 1 of 6. Blazers missing all swish3s are Roco 2, Ben 3, and Dame 8. Blazers urgently need a swish3 shooter. And at least 18 swish3s scored per game. On the stats from this game, Blazers fell from being number 1 in scoring per game (124 pts) to number 10 (113 pts) and CJ fell 4th (33 pts) to 10th (27 pts). As Coach Billups noted, Blazers failed to bring intensity, accuracy, and execution to this game. To win, Blazers need to return to the mentality that was successful in the game 2 win over the Suns. Let's bring back the winning form for the next 5 games and win them all.
