Sims sparks Ga. Tech to 45-22 upset of No. 21 North Carolina

Jeff Sims was really upset for a few days. Then he pulled himself together and waited for another chance.

When it came Saturday night, he sure took advantage of it.

Sims came off the bench to run for three touchdowns and pass for another, Georgia Tech's defense stifled Sam Howell much of the game and the Yellow Jackets beat a ranked team for the first time in Geoff Collins' three seasons as coach with a 45-22 upset of No. 21 North Carolina.

No. 25 Clemson escapes Boston College with 19-13 victory

Clemson defensive end K.J. Henry wasn't too worried as Boston College moved downfield in the final minute.

"The defense, we're some fighters," Henry said. "We're excited about attacking every chance we get."

Henry's belief was rewarded as he pounced on a mishandled snap by quarterback Dennis Grosel with 47 seconds left to preserve the Tigers' latest escape, 19-13 at home Saturday nigh

Sciba's kick lifts No. 24 Wake Forest past Louisville, 37-34

Nick Sciba was ready when Wake Forest set him up with the shot at a winning field goal. He capitalized, just like the rest of these 24th-ranked Demon Deacons sitting atop the Atlantic Coast Conference race.

Sciba hit from 29 yards with 22 seconds left to help Wake Forest beat Louisville 37-34 on Saturday, keeping the Demon Deacons unbeaten while ending a two-game skid against the Cardinals.

Leary throws 2 TDs, No. 23 NC State holds off Louisiana Tech

Beating Clemson was tough enough for North Carolina State. Getting refocused for a nonconference game a week later was another challenge.

"That was a monumental task," coach Dave Doeren said. "More than people probably understand."

The No. 23 Wolfpack did it just well enough. Devin Leary threw for two touchdowns and N.C. State held off Louisiana Tech 34-27 on Saturday night.

Wake Forest defeats Syracuse 40-37 in OT on Perry TD

A.T. Perry said he likely won't sleep for a while and that's understandable.

Perry had three touchdown receptions and his last, an acrobatic 22-yard catch in the left corner of the end zone, lifted No. 19 Wake Forest to a 40-37 overtime victory over Syracuse on Saturday.

No. 22 North Carolina State beats Boston College 33-7

Thayer Thomas knew the pass wasn't intended for him. Then he realized he had a chance to catch it.

"On that play I'm not even a viable option," Thomas said after his leaping catch from Devin Leary on a broken play led to a 79-yard touchdown that helped No. 22 North Carolina State beat Boston College 33-7 on Saturday night.

Van Dyke has 4 TD passes, Miami tops No. 18 NC State 31-30

Tyler Van Dyke backed up his words. And Miami took a big step toward potentially salvaging its season.

Van Dyke passed for 325 yards and four touchdowns, two of them to Charleston Rambo, to lead the Hurricanes past No. 18 N.C. State 31-30 on Saturday night — snapping what was a six-game losing streak against Power 5 opponents.

No. 16 Wake Forest beats Army 70-56 behind Hartman

When it was over, Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson used one word to describe it: "Wow!"

Sam Hartman threw for a career-high 458 yards and five touchdowns in a big-play display and ran for another score, and No. 16 Wake Forest defeated Army 70-56 on Saturday to remain unbeaten in front of a sellout crowd at Michie Stadium.

Hartman, No. 13 Wake Forest top Duke 45-7 to stay unbeaten

Wake Forest's offense has spent the past two weeks moving briskly up and down the field. The good news is the defense came along for the ride with a strong performance of its own after a rough few weeks.

And that has carried these 13th-ranked Demon Deacons to the best start in program history.

Sam Hartman continued his recent tear by accounting for five touchdowns to help Wake Forest beat Duke 45-7 on Saturday, keeping them and in the mix for bigger goals — think an Atlantic Coast Conference championship and being in the College Football Playoff race — than have typically been seen around these parts.

Van Dyke outduels Pickett, Miami edges No. 17 Pitt 38-34

Tyler Van Dyke was buried on the Miami depth chart two months ago. The redshirt freshman tried to stay patient, repeating to himself over and over that his time would come.

    Consider it here.

Brilliant at the start and gutty at the finish, Van Dyke threw for 426 yards and three touchdowns to outduel Heisman Trophy candidate Kenny Pickett as the Hurricanes edged No. 17 Pittsburgh 38-34 on Saturday.

Jurkovec's return sparks Eagles over Virginia Tech 17-3

Phil Jurkovec didn't take long to get a big hit in his surprising return to Boston College's starting lineup.

After that, coach Jeff Hafley knew his QB would be fine.

Jurkovec ran for a touchdown in his return, and the Eagles halted a four-game losing streak with a 17-3 victory over Virginia Tech on Friday night in their annual red bandana game.

Chandler, Tar Heels rally past No. 10 Demon Deacons, 58-55

For the second straight year, Wake Forest couldn't protect a big second-half lead at North Carolina. This time, though, it likely cost the 10th-ranked Demon Deacons any chance of playing their way deeper into the College Football Playoff race.

Ty Chandler ran for career highs of 213 yards and four touchdowns and North Carolina overcame an 18-point deficit to beat Wake Forest 58-55 on Saturday, handing the Demon Deacons their first loss in a nonconference matchup of Atlantic Coast Conference teams.

Leary tosses four TDs as NC State defeats Florida St.

Dave Doeren can smile with pride, enjoying a season in which North Carolina State defeated Clemson and Florida State for the first time since he arrived in Raleigh, N.C., in 2013.

Devin Leary threw for 314 yards and four touchdowns as the Wolfpack jumped ahead of Florida State early for a 28-14 win on Saturday.
