but you were talking about "integrating" a player into the team after the season starts being the issue. I just mentioned that it wasn't an issue for the Pistons

as far as the downside of trading CJ...what is the upside in not trading him? at least compared to where the Blazers have been for 6 years?

By this logic we should trade Lillard.

How can you say we've seen this so many times? We've had 2 game of DameCJ without Stotts.

Should the Warriors of traded Klay since Mark Jackson never had that team contend?

Cj has never had a different coach than stotts.
I think Billups can improve his offensive play into more of a team ball player but in the playoffs his one on one ability is just as needed as a lock down defender.

If we can integrate Simmons for bench players I'm all for it.

I'd probably have leaned towards doing a CJ Simmons trade during the summer. But it always had a lot of downside.

Now having seen CJ improve defensively, Simmons act like a loser, and the team have no camp/preseason I've adjusted my opinion to not wanting that trade.

The upside to keeping CJ is the team improves under Billups, Ant Nas make us a very balanced deep team, and or the team finds a better trade to contend than the possibly flawed Simmons.

To me it has to be a call from GM/coaching and Dames sign off, on if trading CJ for Ben or whoever, strengthens our team. Every executive or coach in the NBA says if acquiring a certain player strengthens the team, they look at it.
There are teams now evaluating proposals and making offers and Morey is shrewd enough to wait and dicker for the best, as he should. I would think he has a potential offer from Portland, and many other teams.

Well last game CJ helped the Blazers crush the Suns, putting up 28pts, 6-11 from 3, in 30 minutes. Last game Simmons had zero points, zero friends, zero confidence and zero injuries. I’ll take CJ. Simmons is broken and his Pinot tastes like shit.

Lol ok. Of course the Playoff stats show Simmons is considerably better. The recent stuff is mere negotiating theater.

I don't know how you get to that position

we're talking about CJ for Simmons. I don't really see anything major that Portland would be risking in that trade. Could Simmons bust out in Portland? Sure that's possible. But it's certainly not the case that the Blazers are on a championship track right now. It's debatable if the Blazers are even on a HCA-in-the-playoffs track.

Dame is Portland's best shot at a championship if Olshey could just get him another elite talent. That's not CJ

Simmons is a brat, he wants HIS own team, unless he’s better than Dame he will bring drama and bitterness on his way to destroying any hope.

He's never brought that in his entire career and isn't bringing it now. He wants off of that team where the player they prioritize over him occupies the only area where he feels he can score. Some people just make shit up.

You can’t coach height and athleticism into existence. We can all read, we disagree on the level of impact, especially on physical reality.

i think a couple inches in height is being a little bit overrated. Simmons is a freak but reality is most teams have both guards at 6’6” or less. Cj is, from my sight, continuing to bulk up.

his height isnt an issue with his offense, which is some people’s issue.

On defense, ive already seen improvement and have faith in Billups. So im not worried there.

Im not sold yet either. But im willing to give it more games to confirm one way or another.
I believe people can change after so long. Not all and likely less than majority, but its not as rare as its being made out.
Sometimes it just takes the right coaching and direction to get a player to change/fix/block bad habits.

7” is absolutely massive especially combined with gazelle like athleticism. The same thing you said about coaching, if applied to simmons, equals an MVP candidate rather than a fringe all-star in CJ. Id rather see what billups can do with 6’11” 25 year old Simmons than 6’4”, 30 year old CJ.

Thats fair. Id like to point out, cj has been faithful aNd committed to Portland. Can we expect the same from Simmons? Does Billups get his head right and get more consistent perimeter offense from him and he takes it to some southern city when FA hits?
I fully beleive as long as we are winning, CJ will keep signing here.
