Or is it a good MLE signing because it allowed us to make the Nance trade?

I may be incorrect but didn’t Christian Wood get to pick which team he wanted to go to? Wasn’t it part of free agency? It’s not like it was open bidding and he was sold to the highest bidder

If we made a great MLE signing, a Nance trade would've been a downgrade.

Olshey got $0.60/dollar for Jones and upgraded it to $0.85/dollar. Upgade on the end, but a still a net negative IMO.

how often are trades dollar for dollar. And then you aren't factoring appreciation vs depreciation in the monetary numbers provided.

the end result is what matters and its a net positive in my opinion.

I don't have any inside info, but the Blazers are about $3M into luxury tax territory. Unless they're firmly into title contention, I think it's pretty much a given that they will make a trade by the deadline to get themselves out of LT. They could move Ant and his $3.8M contract, but he's playing really well. I'd say that RoCo would certainly be an option to get moved for a lesser contract. Nurk seems like a reach to me.

some journalist mentioned it as possibility

it wasnt inside info, but rather assumption based on salary cap

Houston didn't have cap-space. And Wood mainly wanted out of Detroit

I tend to think that Olshey is just content with kicking the can down the street. Just pick up a little more value... a little more talent with our draft picks. He could have been looking at a player like Wood and sold him on playing a big role here. Maybe I'm wrong and he tried but my thought is we could have had a better and younger player, with a little higher salary, who would have cost us one less draft pick but Neil just didn't get it done.

I would assume trades aren't usually even. Like I said, think Olshey upgraded from Jones.

a couple of bad off-seasons in a row...Tolliver, Hezonja, trading for Bazemore, Jones. When the transaction highlights of those two seasons are trading for Whiteside and signing Melo....yeeeeesh.

one thread of 2016 is pretty condemning for Olshey:

    * bidding against himself and giving Evan Turner 70M
    * watching 3 years of Turner...eyes bleed plenty
    * trading Turner for Bazemore
    * enduring 43 games of Bazemore...eyes bleed more
    * trading Bazemore for 21 games of Ariza
    * trading Ariza and two firsts for RoCo

what would cap that thread is letting RoCo walk next summer...and it could happen

That doesn’t change what i said.
If Houston wasn’t Woods first choice, he wouldn’t be there.

Can’t complete a sign & trade if the player doesn’t want to be in that destination

Now it may say something that wood wanted to be in Houston over Portland…

“Neil just didn’t get it done”
    I mean…
Maybe Wood didn’t want to lose *millions* to tax?
Also, Wood said he chose Houston because he and Stephen Silas have an amazing relationship.

Neil randomly calling him up probably isn’t nearly as powerful as a personal relationship with your potential head coach that has lasted years.

Idk man that’s a bit far

Roco is much more athletic than Tolliver at the very least.

Looks to me Neils assembled a decent team.

that's saying something, but you're the one saying it. I haven't seen anybody else say it. Where is a link saying that Wood preferred Houston over all other destinations? The only thing I've seen is that Wood refused to re-sign with Detroit

    … common sense?
A free agent can pick ANY team he wants (that also wants him).

Say the Thunder offered Detroit the #1 pick for Wood. Detroit wouldn’t be able to accept because Christian Wood would say, uh, no, I’m not signing the contract under those circumstances.

This is how it probably went:
Wood gets offers and teams express interest.
Wood decided he wanted to go to Houston despite the trade requests (he talks about this as well as Silas, which also logically implies it was his choice. “Why would you still choose to come here with both stars requesting a trade?” Keyword choose to come).
Houston doesn’t have enough cap space but Detroit doesn’t want to lose him for nothing.
    Sign and trade is commenced.
If Wood *preferred* and *wanted* to go to another team, he would be there.

Nothing Neil Olshey could have done, short of massively overpaying, would’ve put Christian Wood into a Blazer jersey.

You can Google “Why Christian wood chose the rockets” for more

0 points and 3 rebounds as a starter in 19 minutes? WTH? What a waste of 2 1st round picks if this doesn't get better.
A complete missing entity against the 76'ers.
