The Blazers lost the swish3 contest scoring 15 of 36 vs the Grizzlies 17 of 50 in the Oct 27 win 116-96 over Memphis. This was a major rebound from Monday's awful loss to the Clippers in which Dame got going with swish3s, coaching strategies resulted in a 3rd Q that we won 36-20, excellent Blazer energy was notable, and there was effective 2nd half defense.

Simons led scoring 5 of 7, CJ scored 4 of 9, Dame scored 4 of 11, Dennis scored 1 of 1, and Roco scored 1 of 4. Blazers missing 1 each swish3 attempts were Nurk, Nas, Larry, and Elleby. There was good ball movement that led to much higher quality swish3 attempts, and with better ball movement. The Blazer energy level was much more conducive to a win, and the extra effort on offense and defense paid off.

Dame had 10 assists in this game, and did an excellent job of involving Blazers in scoring. CJ, Nurk, Cody, Larry, and Simons all had good games with strong contributions to scoring and defending against the Grizzlies. Now let's carry this energy into defeating the Clippers on Friday!

Suns and Grizzlies are presently 1-2 in the league in terms of worst 3-point percentage allowed. Are we the cause or just the beneficiaries?

    15 of 36 is better than 17 of 50.

not sure id say we lost it just because we hit two less. The 14 other shots we didn't take have an impact as well.

No. My report is of who scored more swish3s, even if at a lower %. Yes, the efficiency of scoring is a major factor for the win, but the power of the swish3 makes it worth analyzing the game from the 3FG aspect. Most analysis is biased to favor the the 2 and FG data. But swish3s become more important as shooting accuracy and range continue to evolve.

In my opinion, Blazers need to score 18+ swish3s per game for a better chance to win. Let's score more swish3s than the LA Clippers and win!

The Blazers won the swish3 contest scoring 19 of 41 vs the Clippers 15 of 42 in the Oct 29 revenge win. Dame is back! And Norm is back! Nurk, Roco, and Larry had good games, and defensive intensity indicated the determined energy needed to win.

Dame led scoring 5 of 7, Norm scored 4 of 6, Roco scored 3 of 6, Nas scored 2 of 3, CJ scored 2 of 7, Dennis and Elleby each scored 1 of 1, and Simons scored 1 of 7. Blazers missing swish3 attempts were Nurk 1 and Cody 2.

The Blazers outrebounded the Clippers 63-43, and had 14 TO, a vast improvement from the Monday game with 30 of them. The Blazers are a work in progress, but can win the next 3 games if they can bring the same energy and determination that is evident in the last 2 games. Go Blazers!

The Blazers lost the swish3 contest Oct 31 in North Carolina scoring 17 of 54 vs the Hornets 20 of 42 in the 113 - 125 loss. Although Blazers won the first half 60-53, the defensive intensity faded for the 2nd half in which Blazers allowed the Hornets 36 pts each quarter and committed too many TOs.

Simons led scoring 5 of 8, CJ scored 4 of 11, Nas scored 2 of 3, Roco scored 2 of 6, Norm scored 2 of 9, and Dame scored 2 of 14, Cody was 0 of 1 and Nurk was 0 of 2.

The Blazers can win the next game if they can bring the intensity level and determination that they showed in the Oct 29 win over LA Clippers. Go Blazers and beat the 76ers!

Ant and Nas shooting reg FG% and 3's at a lights out rate so far, CJ shooting 3's at 43% so far and Powell at 41%, Dame is the big anchor here shooting 3's at 23% and his reg FG% at 35%, lets hope Dame gets his shit together soon

The Blazers have 7 players shooting above 40%, and 2 are at 100% (but only on 2 of 2 shooting). Through 6 games,
    Dennis 100
    Tony 100
    Nas 50 (8 of 16)
    Simons 44.7 (17 of 38)
    CJ 43.3 (26 of 60)
    Larry 42.9 (3 of 7)
    Norm 40.9 (9 of 22)

Let's see more swish3 shooting from these 7 and soon 8 when Dame gets back on track!

The Blazers lost the swish3 contest scoring 12 of 34 vs the 76ers 13 of 36 in the Nov 1 loss of 103 - 113. This was a low energy game for the Blazers in which 8 TO in the 1st Q led to a deficit that they couldn't erase. Tony came in, added 2 swish3s, and was in only 9 min, least of any Blazer.

Simons led scoring 3 of 7, CJ scored 3 of 8, Tony scored 2 of 2, Dame scored 2 of 9, Norm and Larry each scored 1 of 3. Nas was 0 of 2.

It is difficult to understand why Tony was cut short of continuing to score swish3s and why the defense sagged in the 2nd half. Let's hope for better use of swish3 weapons, better substitutions to get more 2nd half defensive intensity, and winning attitude for a win over the Cavs on Wed.

The Blazers lost the swish3 battle scoring 13 of 37 vs the Cavaliers 15 of 30 in the Nov 3 loss 104-107. This was a game of lapses of defense and missing key shots that could have been a win. The Blazers were outrebounded 39-43 and again were poor at FT.

CJ led scoring 4 of 9, Norm scored 3 of 6, Dame scored 3 of 12, Roco scored 2 of 3, and Simons scored 1 of 4. Larry, Tony, and Nas were each 0 of 1.

After scoring 6 points on 2 swish3s in 2 min in the 76ers game, Tony only got 5 min and 1 swish3 attempt in this game. Let's see Tony shoot at least 8 swish3s, given his last season 60% swish3 talent in the next game and a win over the Pacers!

    Hello darkness, my old friend
In the old days, before newspapers died, this would have been printed up and sent out to paying fans as The Swish3 Report. A game-by-game breakdown of who won and lost the swish3 battle.

This is one of the best threads here. If only because many thought swish3 was Meyers! Lol

But really. I love swish3 providing the numbers like this.

The Blazers won the swish3 battle scoring 17 of 39 vs the Pacers 14 of 42 in the Nov 5 win 110 - 106. This was a back and forth game in which the Blazer defense was sufficient, along with a return to respectable FT shooting (13 of 15) to win the game.

CJ led scoring 5 of 9, and Roco also scored 5 of 10, Simons scored 4 of 6, and Norm scored 3 of 4. Nurk and Nas were each 0 of 1, Tony was 0 of 2, and Dame was 0 of 6. Roco scored 2 of those swish3s in the last min and was the hero of the game.

Despite too many layups allowed, and 13 TO, the Blazers accomplished enough defense for the win, especially notable in the 4th Q. Let's continue to build on the improving defense and keep making enough substitutions to keep fresh legs on the floor the whole game to beat the Lakers tomorrow.

    Go Blazers!

The Blazers won the swish3 battle scoring 15 of 55 vs the Lakers 9 of 32 in the Nov 6 blowout win 105-90, a blowout win because the lead had been up to 34 pts, the largest lead the Lakers have allowed this season. This was a great game to soundly beat the Lakers and see Dame lead the way!

Dame led scoring 6 of 14, Roco scored 4 of 7, Nas scored 2 of 6, Ben scored 1 of 3, Norm scored 1 of 4, and CJ scored 1 of 10. Larry, Greg, and Dennis each shot 0 of 1, Elleby shot 0 of 2, and Simons shot 0 of 6. It's great to see Dame again scoring 43% of his swish3s!

The Blazers took an early lead in this game on good shooting, starting with Dame's first shot swish3 followed soon by another, and early defense was good holding the Lakers to 14 pts in the 1st Q. The poor shooting in the 4th Q (only 12 pts) was because most shots were by deep bench players, and the 30 pt margin eroded to 15 pts. For wins in the upcoming road games, Blazers need to bring consistent defensive intensity from the start. Let's see continued progress in hustle and team defense that will fuel the offense and let's again beat the LA Clippers!

The Blazers lost the swish3 battle scoring 14 of 37 vs the Clippers 16 of 30 in the 109-117 loss on Nov 9. This was a game where the Clippers took the early lead making their first 3 swish3s, added to it with 2nd Q swish3s, and were not matched by Blazer swish3 shooting. The Blazers need to get to 18 swish3s and to play consistent defense that does not allow layups and lob dunks in marked points of weakness. Dame continued to progress with 27 pts on 11 of 23 FG shooting, but Nic Batum had a good game scoring 6 of 8 swish3s.

Norm led scoring 5 of 6, Dame scored 4 of 13, Tony and Nurk each scored 1 of 1, Larry and Simons each scored 1 of 3, and Roco scored 1 of 6. Nas and Cody were each 0 of 1, and CJ was 0 of 2.

Although this was a back and forth game that was much better than the Oct loss in LA, there were mistakes and lapses in the defense, especially late in the game, that allow the Clippers to win. Let's get back to the consistent energetic team defense, make 18 or more swish3s, and beat the Suns!

The Blazers lost the swish3 battle scoring 7 of 30 vs the Suns 11 of 28 in the Nov 10 loss 109-119. This was a poor game for the Blazers who did not score a swish3 until Norm made the 1st on the 14th try in the 2nd Q. The Blazers missed 13 mostly open swish3 attempts and got behind scoring only 21 pts (vs the Suns 33) in the 2nd Q and never caught up. The Blazers allowed Kaminsky his career high 31 pt game off the bench. On the plus side, Dame continues to progress scoring 28 pts and 7 Reb and 7 Assts.

Norm led scoring 3 of 8, Roco and Larry each scored 1 of 2, Dame scored 1 of 4, and CJ scored 1 of 7. Tony was 0 of 1, Nas was 0 of 2, and Simons was 0 of 4. The Blazers need to score 18 swish3s to win these games, hopefully in 48 or less attempts, and need to find and feed the hot hand!

The energy that drives a consistent defense and feeds a strong shooting offense was not evident in much of this game. Let's get the winning mentality ready for a win over the 1 and 10 Rockets on Friday.!

about 3pt%, and I'm only looking at last season:

    team 3ptFG% ranking:

    upload_2021-11-11_11-59-18.png

    next, opponent 3ptFG%:

    upload_2021-11-11_12-1-37.png

finally, who made the 2nd round of the playoffs:

    upload_2021-11-11_12-2-34.png

6 of the top 8 teams in 3ptFG% made the 2nd round. One of the two that didn't was Portland. 7 of the top-10 made the 2nd round, and all 8 teams that made the 2nd round were in the top-12

so that would indicate that 3ptFG% is pretty important. But looking at the opponent marks, it sure seems to indicate that having good 3pt defense is just about as important as having good 3pt offense....and that's an area Portland failed

    * Last season, Portland was 6th in 3pt% at .385; they were 20th in 3pt defense at .372. That's a +.013 differential

    * This season, Portland is 11th in 3pt% at .351. But they are 28th in 3pt defense at .383. That's a -.033 differential

like a lot of these team metrics, 3ptFG% seems a better gauge as a net differential rather then just isolating on one end of the floor. It might be that the most consistent thing about the Dame/CJ teams is that every upgrade seems accompanied by a downgrade elsewhere. It's a 7 year game bop-a-mole
