I just don't see everything sustaining.

    big picture:
In the midst of a big inflation jump and the demand for much higher wages, its only going to aid in large corp swallowing up the ma and pas.
Im not sure how anyone can view the path we are on and the things we've been doing, as prudent for an improved future.

I work for a Ma and Pa. We pay well. Solid benefits. 401k matching.

We have incredibly low turnover. Payout bonuses nearly every year, including during recessions. Last year, long term employees got a 15% bonus (15% of our annual salary, which was a record).

Ma's and Pa's paid well 75-50 years ago. We as a country have more wealth now than we ever have. More than any country ever has.

Ma's and Pa's who are run well will do just fine paying good salaries.

The ones who aren't run well will fold. And good riddance to that. Makes room for better companies to treat those employees right.

The entire premise is they like where they live and don’t want to leave, but are not being represented relatively. Laws written for metros don’t translate well in rural areas, and vice versa. It’s really not an identity politics issue as much as people are making it out to be. There are literal logistical issues that just don’t translate well. Eastern Oregon doesn’t need strict gun legislation any more than Portland needs agricultural or land management guidelines. People’s livelihoods get messed with when they are forced to abide by restrictions that are irrelevant to their lifestyle, whether you’re in a city or rural.

The thing is there are a lot more people in Central and Eastern Oregon who don't want this, and the response from the people pushing it is then Move. They don't want to move but want to push their beliefs on those of us who are here. Multiple generation Oregonians who have no interest in Idaho, because Idaho doesn't represent them, it goes both ways.

I don't think the issue with agricultural or land management guidelines in Eastern Oregon is that the guidelines were designed for the metro area. The issue is that people in EO don't want any guidelines period.

When your 'lifestyle' is dependent upon exploiting the land, especially public land, guidelines are indeed a real nuisance.

I prefer the term "Pirate Who Fucks".

Please make a note of it.

They have no choice. If you don't play the game as ruthless as the other team you lose.

Need a law to prevent gerrymandering.

Many have farms And ranches which can't really be moved. I think they should be able to break off and join Idaho. Many here have shown a hatred for them yet want to keep them captive?

I have no problem with the land. In fact, I quite enjoy the land.

I have a problem with ignorant idiots like the people who want to change the state rather than just moving their own selfish asses.

okay. Selfish asses. You don't live there, but you want to dictate the land they live on because… you like it being part of Oregon? And they are the selfish asses???

as said, ranches aren’t easy to just “move”….

I'm from the farm lands of Iowa and if you think farmers don't sell out and move to warm climates you're wrong.....and most farmers I know there don't give two shits about politics...they just want it to rain and the cattle to stay healthy..they are from this place called America no matter where they move to.....moving the border of a state doesn't make any sense at all no matter who they vote for or what vaccine they refuse..love it or leave it...Oregon isn't getting divorced from it's natural forest lands just because of some Burns occupation idiots.

There are ranches in Idaho as well. If someone wants to be a rancher and live in Idaho, they can do that by selling one farm and buying another.

People want their cake (Idaho) while eating it (keeping their Oregon residence).

They also don't mind getting more assistance from the state than their county gives out.

I live over here and have no interest in being part of Idaho. There are a lot more people who don’t want this then do. Since we don’t own ranches do we not count?
