How many mass murder situations would there be without all these guns? How many mass murder situations do we have with all these guns?

I don't know, the guy wandering around Walmart this weekend with a gun on his hip. What a bad ass. I mean must be a bad ass to need to carry a gun in Walmart.

In 2021 there have been 39 people killed in the USA in mass shootings. Last year it was 9.
A total of 996 victims were fatally injured during mass shootings in the United States between 1982 and May 26, 2021.

That's an average of around 26 deaths per year.

We average nearly 1200 bludgeoning deaths per year (hands, feet, bats, blunt objects). Significantly more deaths every year than the last 40 years of mass shootings combined...

I submit that mass shootings are incredibly low on the list of what I want our leaders spending time on. There are far more important things they should be focused on.

I'm not that worried about those people. The people who would be mugging my wife would have sold all of that stuff for drug money before this point.

And the biggest part from my perspective is that she feels safer, and feels capable of defending herself, so doesn't act like a victim.

Not being a victim is the first line of defense when trying to avoiding conflict. If you're good enough at avoiding conflict it doesn't matter how capable you are.

So bear spray and whistles are not strong enough protection for your wife because of mass shootings situations...

......But also mass shootings are not really a big enough deal to really worry about?

Good points but I would also mention that as long ad we allow drugs easily into our country and a breakdown of the family can contribute to problems with crime and illegal use of guns.
The whole drug issue is swept under the carpet in allowing cartels to poison our kids, and many families have been destroyed because of it.
Deal with illegal drugs and we help humanity.

You all know it was the prosecution that asked the judge to drop the gun charges, right?

I stand by my original statement. America is fucking stupid with its gun obsession. I’ll take my chances with bare hands, bats and hammers. And my family’s.

Defense has argued in closing that the jury shouldn't believe DNA evidence, photographic evidence, police or eyewitness testimony that contradicts Kyle's accounts of that evening. On the stand Kyle has been shown to have been lying about a multitude of things from being there as an EMT (he isn't), that he'd been asked to protect private property (he hadn't) & what he stated to police about his first victim Joseph Rosenbaum pointing a gun at him (Rosenbaum didn't have a gun). According to many legal analysts, the judge in this case has been obviously biased consistently going out of his way to give the Defense favorable rulings and conversely dressing down the prosecution. While anyone else would be removed from the courtroom for not having their phone on mute, the judge's has gone off several times... his ringtone is Trump's rally anthem. Also his mishandling of jury instructions is thought to have given the Defense clear grounds for appeal.

You're more than welcome to do exactly that.

It doesn't change the fact that the gun debate is just a designed distraction from the real problems. Every bit of time our politicians spend on the gun debate is valuable time wasted.

I see what you're saying, but really if you look at the root of the problems, drugs are only a problem because they are illegal (making them far more valuable), lack of care, and a poor gini coefficient.

Solve those problems and you solve both the drug problem and the gun problem.

We used to walk the eastbank esplanade after dark. She worked downtown and I commuted through to pick her up on the way home. So we'd take a 3 mile walk every day.

Eventually she just asked about it, so we got her a permit.

The fact that a kid can easily get a gun from mommy and waltz down the street and kill people and we are actually wondering if he’s in trouble or not is batshit. That cowards in masks and bullet proof vests stand in their adorable lineup in Capitol buildings is fucking ridiculous. Because of some dumbass amendment from centuries ago. It’s all so goddamn dumb whenever I even think about it or see it I get furious and so frustrated. I don’t believe the best route is “oh well the guns are out there nothing we can do about it might as well go get some for myself”. It’s stupid. All of it.

If a person is attacked I believe they have the right to defend themselves.

People should not be attacking other people.

If they attacked him I believe he was well within his rights to kill them. I wouldn't want that changed.

No, I actually listed several reasons, and one which I even stated was the most important.

But thanks for trying to confuse what I actually said.

If a solution solves multiple issues they are seen as an additional reason to use that solution. But that doesn't mean I want congress wasting 1 second of their time addressing that easily solved problem.

I have trouble saying someone was just using self defense when they were looking for trouble, which he was. If I go with my AR15 or whatever the hell he had and am roaming the streets during a protest, and then get confronted and end up killing people, that’s not self defense. You asked for it, you got it, and you now want to hide behind your gun using a self defense excuse? Nope
