I mentioned it...that was my word in my post and it was my slant on what was happening.

for fuck-sakes, if the GM's are actually concerned enough about the Vulcans using a legal mechanism to unfairly (my word too) terminate Olshey's contract they are talking about forming an association to protect GM's, then they are definitely suspecting dirty tactics

I'd also say I don't think the 30 owners are going to be happy about GM's forming a pseudo-union

this kinda PR fluff piece from Woj was predictable considering how slimy he is and how connected he is to Neil. Just brings to the forefront the incompetence of this ownership because even if the investigation was rooted from noble causes of improving conduct in the workplace, all that will be out there in public is that they're doing this to save $.

Not worth the 20 mil they're potentially saving.

God, I want a new ownership so bad.

    Phil already owns the Ducks.

He's also 83. How many people buy sports teams at that age? I'm guessing not any.

A new ownership group doesn't necessarily need to be a local.

    - Joe Tsai owns the Nets. He considers San Diego and Hong Kong as his hometowns.
    - Steve Ballmer is from Seattle and owns the Clippers.
    - ARod now owns a part of the Timberwolves from Miami.
    - DWade owns a small portion of the Jazz from Miami.
    - Marc Lasry/Wes Edens own the Bucks from NYC.
    - Tony Ressler/Jamie Gertz are from LA and they own the Hawks
    - Dan Gilbert is a tycoon in Detroit. He owns the Cavs.
    - Robert Pera made his money in Silicon Valley, but he owns the Grizzlies.
    - Hell, PA owned the Blazers for 30 yrs from Seattle.
    etc etc

We need to get out of this smalltown mindset. People are hellbent on bringing in locals for not only GM/Pres/coaching positions, but also ownership. I get wanting someone who understands the general environment of the city, but Portland has become fairly diverse these days and the globe has gotten smaller.

My only two points of note for any new ownership group are:

    1. be committed to winning.
    2. hire the right people and let them do their jobs.

That's it. I don't give one damn where they're from because these fears of relocation are just nonsense. The league won't let it happen.

    From the ESPN article;

"In his nine-plus years running the Trail Blazers, the NBA has received no calls to the league office or its tips hotline alleging workplace complaints against Olshey, sources told ESPN. The Blazers' human resources department received no complaints on Olshey until recent weeks, "

"Terms reported by the media like "toxic environment" and "hostile workplace" felt to rival GMs as a campaign to trigger a firing for "cause," presumably a tactic to set up the voiding of the remaining years and salary on Olshey's contract."

I do have questions that second part could be contributing to the investigation as well. Not sure about you all, but if a law firm did a forensic investigation of my employment they'd probably find a bunch of bad jokes, poor humor, disgruntled people I fired, comments out of context, and other situations that would make me look bad. I don't believe I've done any type of harassment or such beyond being an idiot or grumpy at times, but it would be very unpleasant to have that type of review of all my work.

I don't see how Olshey can survive this. I guess if the independent investigation comes out and 100% clears him maybe, and if Jody doesn't think poorly of Neil.

I wonder if part of sources giving ESPN some of this information today is to basically warn the Blazers "if you fire Neil pay him all he is owed or we will fight this"

the President says he’s going to run again in 2024 and he’ll be 82 then so who knows

    age is but a number

doubt Phil Knight cares at all about the NBA other than using forced labor in China and SE Asia to make shoes and athletic gear endorsed by multi-millionaires paid millions to do so tho

why deal with owning a pro team and dealing with City of Portland BS as he already has the Ducks as his franchise?

    Hello darkness, my old friend
The question I have at this point is, regardless of whether the Trail Blazers are actually engaging in a dirty tricks campaign against Olshey--if Olshey believes that they are, is this really a working relationship that can be salvaged? Like, if the investigation clears him, is everything back to normal, Olshey working for the betterment of the franchise he believes smeared him to try to get out of paying him?

    Feels like a strange situation.

    it's weird

latest seems to be the investigation isn't finding much. At the same time, it's pretty safe to say Woj is Olshey's mouthpiece and he's strongly implying there's some 'below-the-belt' stuff being pulled by the Vulcans

my question is if the investigation isn't finding anything substantial, why would Woj be casting Olshey as a possible victim? Why would Olshey be leaking things to Woj that might rankle Seattle? If the Vulcans were not trying to justify a 'cause' firing, why that article by Woj at ESPN?

He's out. Only question that remains is if he's gonna get paid or not. Let's just hope he doesn't leave us with a Luke Babbitt esque parting gift, and we rid him of his responsibilities before he can.

It seems most likely that this whole story is a standard risk aversion HR protocol for handling the alleged complaint(s). If something was submitted and it simply triggered an investigation, then that's all we are seeing. All the unnecessary drama and mud slinging is more of the same shit we saw this summer. I find it very hard to believe that Quick (or anyone else for that matter) knows anything about the current findings, or lack thereof. We will all know soon enough I guess :dunno:

Maybe Olshey thinks he can set himself up as a martyr in the public eye and make sure he can't be fired for any reason without a PR backlash. :dunno:

There are currently 614 billionaires in the US alone. Now understand the new owner does not have to be one person. There are over 20 million millionaires. Thousands of them have hundreds of millions. An ownership group that has a number of good investors is very likely.
