Simons is also up for an extension which is not worth to pay if CJ doesn't get traded.

Throw in McLemore as well (for some reason he's not listed as a Portland player in this Trade Machine) - but trade can't happen until December 15:

Don't like Timmy Jr - he's just there to make the salaries match. Maybe try to flip him to Indiana as Carlisle is the only coach who can make him look useful:

(Dennis Smith Jr is a placeholder for McLemore, but as we're getting Brunson, I wouldn't mind throwing him in instead/as well.)

good point....CJ and Russell are a much better fit than CJ and Dame. hmmm. Minny would be happy because their institutional memory would tell them they'd be getting a rich man's Randy Foye in CJ. That way they could finally win the Brandon Roy trade

both of those trades have Dallas including Brunson in a trade for CJ:

I just don't see why the Mavs would agree to that. The only notable thing CJ does better is hit three's. And Brunson isn't a ball-stopper like CJ; he's a much better ball-mover & play-maker

I agree. I've coveted Brunson for some time (i.e., since before we didn't draft him). But I'm seeing some Mavs-fans-produced trade scenarios for CJ which suggests that Dallas is one of the few teams that might actually want CJ, and I'm just saying "here's what you need to give up to get him".

Reasons the Mavs might trade Brunson:
    • He's a UFA coming up and they don't want to spend what it takes to keep him
    • The GM becomes alarmed that Jason Kidd's new system seems to be Brunson-centered and has led to Doncic cratering in importance to the team
    • They're stupid
    • They think his form is unsustainable and want to sell high and get a reliable almost-all star in return
    • They really want to dump Hardaway and know this is the only way it'll happen (this last one kind of rules out my idea of flipping Hardaway for a couple of expirings in Indy)

That deal is interesting. I wouldn't want to part with DSJ, but Brunson would convince me otherwise. I guess the Pacers would balk at it though. Elleby is trash, maybe would take more than Elleby from Portland. Naturally they would let him walk but that doesn't save them that much money? Would want to lose Maxi and essentially get back Cody just to bag CJ. Is CJ that much better than THJ?

I would like to get Christian wood.

    Houston obviously wouldn’t want CJ.

Would a third team want to give up young players and picks for CJ to send to Houston?

    I love the thought of:

    Dame
    Norm
    Little
    Wood
    Nurk

even better if you can then flip Nurk and Roco for someone like Richaun Holmes.

I wonder if the Cavs would want him to replace Sexton's scoring? They need outside shooting bad and he is a hometown kid but he doesn't really fit their timeline.

If took back Love we could also take a valuable player on a rookie deal in a 3-way, not sure who that would be though.

I don't see a fit in a trade for us, but still feel like the Knicks could use CJ(and a different coach). Kemba isn't the #1 scorer coming in there they maybe hoped he would be. or 2 or 3. CJ as the 1, with Randle as their 2 would be more beneficial, IMO.

A different coach!? Thibs is the only coach that has had that benighted franchise looking anything other than abject in a decade.

yeah, but if there was ever a SG that would not fit Thibs idea of a SG it would probably be CJ

Is he any worse of a "Thibs guy" than Walker or Rose?

Ok, then I think CJ would make a good PG for the Knicks. Again, without having specific targets we would want from them.

It's funny how some of these trades suggest 12-man rotations and dilute the overall talent on this team.

ok...and I suppose that might work since Randle has kind of a similar playmaking role as Draymond. And, with CJ and Fournier being the starting back court we'd see just how good a defensive coach Thibs was....although I suppose it could be Kemba and CJ starting

I’ve been saying since Summer we need to package CJ and Nurkic for KAT and a guard (was thinking Rubio earlier) but I’d be happy with Beverly.

    Dame / Beverly
    Powell / Ant
    Little / RoCo
    Nance / (vet pick up)
    KAT / Z

Trading CJ is addition by subtraction. At this point he’s more detrimental to the team than anything he provides. Whatever you can get for him is an added bonus.
