No. 25 Arkansas beats Missouri, caps best season since 2011

Sam Pittman grinned for almost the entirety of his postgame press conference Friday night. The Arkansas coach and his team had done something no others ever had.

The No. 25 Razorbacks capped their regular season with a 34-17 victory over Missouri, snapping a five-game losing streak to the Tigers. The win also kept the Battle Line Trophy in Fayetteville and provided Arkansas a perfect 3-0 season in its trophy games.

Jenkins' late TD lifts LSU past No. 14 Texas A&M, 27-24

    — A string of clutch completions by Max Johnson in little more than a minute capped coach Ed Orgeron's roller-coaster tenure at LSU with a triumphant sendoff before a jubilant Tiger Stadium crowd.

Johnson hit Jaray Jenkins with a 28-yard scoring pass down the right sideline with 20 seconds left, and LSU knocked off No. 14 Texas A&M 27-24 on Saturday night to become bowl eligible.

Burden shines as Mizzou rolls past Louisiana Tech, 52-2

When things went awry for Missouri last year, the defense was usually the culprit.

It was that side of the ball that gave the Tigers a lift in their opener against Louisiana Tech on Thursday night.

With their offense off to a slow start, the new-look bunch of coordinator Blake Baker came up with a trio of first-half interceptions, including one that Joseph Charleston returned for a score. And that was all the spark needed for the Missouri offense, who got on a roll behind heralded recruit Luther Burden III in a 52-24 victory over the Bulldogs.

Bennett, Georgia D lead No. 3 Dawgs to 49-3 rout of Oregon

Stetson Bennett and the Georgia defense picked up where they left off in last year's national championship game, even with a bunch of their former teammates now playing in the NFL.

Bennett threw for 368 yards and accounted for three touchdowns, a revamped defense didn't miss a beat, and the No. 3 Bulldogs looked very much like a champion intent on repeating with a 49-3 rout of No. 11 Oregon on Saturday.

No. 20 Kentucky routs Miami (Ohio), Stoops ties wins record

Ahead but inconsistent after 30 minutes of play, No. 20 Kentucky needed just 62 seconds to right things and earn a significant win for coach Mark Stoops.

Barion Brown returned the second-half kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, Keidron Smith's fumble return less than a minute later set up another score and the Wildcats pulled away to beat Miami (Ohio) 37-13 on Saturday night in the opener for both teams.

Jefferson generates 4 TDs to power Arkansas past Cincinnati

Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson felt disrespected when he wasn't named to any preseason all-Southeastern Conference team.

Jefferson's opening week performance could earn more attention for the player who had the SEC's second-best touchdown-to-interception ratio last year and was the leading returning rusher at the position in the conference..

Jefferson threw for 223 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 62 yards and a score to lead No. 19 Arkansas to a 31-24 win over No. 23 Cincinnati on Saturday.

Hooker, defense lead No. 24 Tennessee past No. 17 Pitt in OT

Tennessee coach Josh Heupel isn't sure his team would have found a way a year ago to win a game where it fumbled twice and allowed a blocked punt. All in the second half. On the road. Against a program coming off a Power Five conference title.

It's not last season. The 24th-ranked Volunteers may be maturing in front of their coach's eyes. The latest proof came in a draining 34-27 overtime victory over No. 17 Pitt on Saturday, a four-hour physical and emotional marathon that ended with Tennessee spilling onto the field in a mixture of joy and relief.

Sanders helps No. 16 Arkansas rocket past South Carolina

Darren McFadden and Felix Jones make for some serious company. Rocket Sanders can now say he's there with those all-time Arkansas running backs.

The Razorbacks' sophomore running back ran for a career-high 156 yards and two touchdowns in helping the No. 16 Razorbacks beat South Carolina 44-30 on Saturday.

    Bennett, No. 1 Georgia's D steamrolls South Carolina 48-7

Georgia coach Kirby Smart and his No. 1 Bulldogs are sending messages to anyone who thought they were going to drop off after a national championship.

The latest statement came Saturday in a 48-7 victory over South Carolina (1-2, 0-2) in their Southeastern Conference opener, where the Gamecocks needed a touchdown with 53 seconds to go to avoid becoming the fifth shutout victim of the Bulldogs (3-0) in their past 14 games.
