The implication here is that whoever regardless of who the new GM...Billups may be on the hot seat sooner rather than later.
Yep. I fully expect that exact scenario. Billups will be gone after next season unless we make a deep run.
i don't. considering how crucial billups reportedly has been in calming down the dame drama, i think chauncey is in for the long haul. (his contract makes it a no-brainer).
He would be the first coach to buck the "GM with a coach that wasn't picked by the GM" trend then. Plenty of others have been fired with years left on their deals. Then again, Jody may just suck it up because she doesn't want to payout Chauncey's deal.
In which case we probably will not get a good GM. If the GM doesn't have that authority he's not going to take this job, (unless Billups is his friend).
Honestly, CJ/Roco for Love Okoro makes us a better team (and maybe Cleveland too). Also gets us under the LT this year and gives us more flexibility for the next few years. Lillard/Simons Powell/(Simons/Okoro) Little/Okoro Nance/Love Nurkic/Zeller
That's why I think Tayshaun will be the best pick. Get him and Chauncy in the lab ASAP to rectify this dumpster fire.
i think chauncey gets at least two years regardless of who the GM is. perhaps just my intuition, but i think he's gonna be a good coach once he figures out the nuances of his role.
I'm seriously wondering how often a GM under contract has been hired away by another team? Especially mid-season.
If he's a legit good coach, and the GM makes a decent move or two we should be able to get out of first round next season.
Sure, and CJ's a piece of shit that borders on a net negative (with contract). Love expires a year earlier, could give us 20 good minutes (when healthy), and Okoro would be a great b/u 2/3 for our future. Cavs probably wouldn't make the trade unless they're desperate for scoring this year and are either down on Sexton or don't think he'll regain his form after the surgery.
Love isn't going to give anybody a good 20 minutes anymore. Just as well trade Dame if that's all you can get for CJ.
If you are going to give him credit for Dame (debatable) then he also gets the blame for Leonard. That leaves him with a lotto record of one great pick, one OK pick (but not the best player available), and 2 horrible misses. Call it 1 win, 2 losses, and 1 draw.
