So this then again Begs the question. Why would a successful GM leave a successful situation to come to another situation that actually gives them no more control?
My guess would be money. If you throw enough money at someone they might make that leap.
Leaving Chicago or New York for Portland Oregon does not seem like a great career move without having an awesome deal.
Ultimately will Jodi pay big bucks to get a better GM? Lets hope so?

Here's a random question: would you describe the Blazers as an organization where the raw sewage flows up-hill, or down-hill? Are there any NBA teams where having more power comes with a higher level of accountability?

One thing to note. This is possibly the best New York has been in the last 20 years. Not sure New York wants to lose anyone right now?

We will be a junior training ground for a young executive as only GM.

They have day to day autonomy, that's a shit ton more control then having a boss that supervises your every move. Also it would come with a pay raise. It's a clear promotion. It's the difference between being Andy Elisburg and Pat Riley... do you think Riley has no control in Miami?

It's pretty much an unspoken rule in the NBA that if a coach or executive has an opportunity for a promotion with another team, that persons current team doesn't stand in the way.

I highly doubt anyone who gets hired here will have anything even close to the say Pat Riley has but the point is still made. A GM here would probably have more say than they have somewhere else. Probably would demand it to come here as well as asking for more money. Portland simply is not a destination and has very little right now to offer. Yeah an up and comer would like the job I'm sure though.

Just to be clear here. I have very little knowledge on this level so i appreciate the conversation. Kind of brings it in focus.

I really dislike how Wikipedia's policy of neutrality forces that to be a lot more generous to Olshey than he deserves.

Oshley did a slash and burn to this organization, left it in as poor shape as any in the league. Who is worse off? OKC? They have picks up the ass.

100+ mil a year for 3 guys under 6’4? ZERO picks, as for the young guys, not an all star in sight, past first rounders do not really have any value, maybe 7 mil each? A superstar that is in win now mode?

no team is in such a bad state because, yes dame is awesome, but the blazers are fucked since they cannot build around him with enough to become a legit top TEN team. The only viable option for the new gm is to blow it up and trade dame. Oshley’s insistence of keeping cj and bad draft picks has completely screwed dame and this team for year to come.
